anthony's Account Talk

If you are military and looking for new outlets and resources to get your men on the investment track, check out the Military Saves website at www.militarysaves.org. For commanders who are trying to organize savings campaigns Military Saves has outstanding resource kits available and they are DoD sponsored. Military Saves is the DoD version of the national level America Saves campaign and they are pushing "Military Saves Week" from 22 Feb - 1 Mar 09.

Also, April is national "Financial Literacy Month."

Both of these events make good reasons to get a savings campaign moving in your unit and/or business, or at least start building an atmosphere of saving and retirement investing.

I believe in our government but they are not going to save us alone. Individual Americans are going to have to fix this by taking a leadership stand and promoting good financial practices.

I am so glad I came in your home :)

This is THE BEST read - I've seen in a good while and it's really an honor and pleasure to blend with your vibes :cool:

Thanks, Steady. I also just wrote an article for Marine Corps Gazette regarding leadership's role in 401k/TSP type investing with talk about the Military Saves website and other resources. It even includes an interview I conducted with John Grobe, one of our FedSmith TSP Corner writers. When/if it goes to print I'll let the board know.

Later days,
Anthony

Buying In Now

The fear can't get me down!

Went on a buying spree today. Mostly small nibbles, but still picked up shares in Dawson Geophysical (DWSN), KHD Humboldt (KHD), Volcom (VLCM), Barrett Business (BBSI), Logitech (LOGI), and Somanetics (SMTS).

Went to 100% S at COB as well.

I have no doubt now there'll be more pain (definitely wrong in my earlier post about the test ...). In the long run though I'm happy buying at this point.

Updated my "Home Location." I'll be busy here, but lurking the site now and then. Still trying to spread the good word to my Marines here about getting invested. Semper Fi!

I did some buying at the end of last week: picked up RX and BOOM. Small nibbles, but investing wherever I can. Would like to be buying more here and hopefully will soon. Holding steady in S/I funds, and really kicking myself for not gutting it out earlier this year.

Everything is good here (see new profile location) and relatively quiet. Nnutt would get a kick out of this one I bet: I got to see my first "oil river" a week or so ago. The Iraqi's have a town here near the Iranian border where they just can't get the infrastructure and stuff going to fix an open oil fissure. They blame Iranians and Kurds, but mostly its their own bureaucracy at fault. In any case, there's this literal stream of oil flowing from the ground. Millions of dollars in oil going out to the desert every day. You roll up on the place and you can just smell the oil in the air. Kinda wild.

More stock buying today, with a pick up of VTIV shares, and bought FORM earlier this week. We may be going down a bit but I'm seeing a lot of buying potential, especially in the small cap companies, where I prefer to tread. I'm looking for more ...

If we go down, I don't think it will be long or deep and I think the small caps will lead the charge again when we dig out.

Life just can't get any better!

1. Breather correction timed perfectly for first day of the month TSP shares purchase, and all tax exempt no less.

2. Buying straight into the fear yesterday with some more small cap pick-ups ... BIP, VLCM, RX, and EPAX on a 3-5 year horizon.

3. Sox are in the playoffs!

Boy, the only way this gets better is if I could play a game of volleyball where the loser has to buy the other team a sheep and prepare a feast with it. Oh wait, that's on Sunday! WooooHoooo!

Nice!

Birch'd be proud!!!!

They still have a team up there?
(Pure jealousy on that last one....)

He probably would have bought dividend paying "wallflowers" instead of small caps growth, but you never know ... and as for the Sox, that birchtree in his photo is from New Hampshire, so he might be rooting for them as well. Don't anger the bull or you'll get manure on your boots!

Sometimes I get stinky feet.:)

I'm trying to stay aggressive here. Bought more TNA in the Roth today. If this is topping out, I feel like its going to do a bit more climbing and I feel that small caps and the S Fund will lead the way, as they do in most recoveries.

Also, if this is just a healthy correction, I think a 10% drop is reasonable to expect. I'm not able to predict such a corrections, so if I was going to step aside, its already too late.

So, might as well hold on and use it as a buying opportunity. I feel it's more risky now to be out of the market, than to risk missing the next leg up.

"*&%$%*&R$&% ^%#& *()&^# Angels!"

"%^^$ *(#@!& Yankees!"

I mean all of that. "Yankees &R$%*&*!"

ps - to make matters worse my team also managed to lose at volleyball to our Iraqis (even though they stole two US members). This resulted in us having to buy a sheep for feasting.

Anyone ever had fried up sheep butt fat on a piece of flat bread? It squishes in your teeth like jello mush, but has a "slightly different flavor."

I feel for ya - hope that candle wax on a shingle made up for it!

D'Backs fan by location RedSox fan by birth. Oh woe is me!

I had a feelin' the Friday profit-takers would be lurking in the waters today.

Don't care though. I'm not budging until real signs of breakdown start showing, and a little selling into a rally is not a breakdown, just healthy "breathing."

I see AGG/F Fund diving off early day highs. Can someone insightful shed some light on this?

I personally think we'll see a major turnaround on what started out as a down day, with stocks climbing up from noon today and going strong into next week. Just a guess/hope though.

My wife and I are home shopping in Boone, NC. Does anyone have insight or good links to information on the $8,000 first-time home buyer program? When does it expire?

"Dow Trading - The nearest SELL trigger is at 10160. The nearest confirming BUY triggers are at 10,310 and then importantly at 10,345." [market oracle]

Sitting at 10,400 half way through the day. I like the outlook this gives us going into December. I'm holding tight and fully invested.
