When I Am An Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple

Warning - When I Am Old

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat which doesn't go, and doesn't suit me.
And I shall spend my pension on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals, and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I'm tired
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells
And run my stick along the public railings
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick flowers in other people's gardens
And learn to spit.

You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go
Or only bread and pickle for a week
And hoard pens and pencils and beermats and things in boxes.

But now we must have clothes that keep us dry
And pay our rent and not swear in the street
And set a good example for the children.
We must have friends to dinner and read the papers.

But maybe I ought to practice a little now?
So people who know me are not too shocked and surprised
When suddenly I am old, and start to wear purple.

don't wait until you are old to start ma'am,

the younger you are, the funner it is.

So the next time you visit the old homestead, if you see someone about my age in a purple sequined dress with a wide-brim crimson hat on, come on over and tell me hi! :toung:

deal.

besides, i never pass up a chance to say hi to a lady in a sequined dress and wide brimmed hat.

sorry, it was just too easy.

There's a Red Hat Society in my town. I don't know anybody in it-yet. I plan to-down the road, maybe even join.

they have a 'regional' group around here. meet in different towns, i know the locals and some of the others. run into them up at the bar/restraunt/community center at lunch (dinner around here) from time to time, i always make a point of saying high, some of the stuff they've seen...

they always look like they're having a good time. power to the people. did you know that some folks live well into there ninety's and lot's have celebrated their golden wedding anniversity? that is so foriegn to me before i got here.

salt of the earth, if you're looking for wisdom, listen to the grandmothers.

I've been semi-adopted by various grandmothers in a number of towns I've lived in over the years. They weren't Red Hat members but might well have been. yep, special quality there, one of them in my life here is a real Rosie from WWII. Love her to pieces. very special lady. those from WWII era have stories, let me tell you.

The one big advantage of having worked a long career is that your TSP balance will now help you make serious money during this bull market - you earned the privilege.

Yeah, I'm having to take some serious bucks out of my account right now because of medical bills, but I haven't had to touch principal yet. It's all been interest so far. :)

It's almost Monday. With that in mind I offer the following.

White's Statement: Don't lose heart.

Owen's Commentary on White's Statement: ... they might want to cut it out ...

Byrd's Addition to Owen's Commentary on White's Statement: ... and they want to avoid a lengthy search.

:toung:Y'all be careful out there!

Great stuff Lady, it's so easy to get caught up in the market and forget your trading rules. I imagine if I had something like this posted on my wall (and followed it) I might have saved a lot of money...

Thanks for your visit, J! Yes, it's easy for me to get caught up in the moment and let discipline go out the window. I should be more vigilant about monitoring my stops in my TSP funds, especially.

Yes, better living through chemistry. I can SO relate to that. Have you ever seen the Foamy Squirrel YouTube cartoon about needing more pills? I thought it was hysterical. Here is the link. But it's one of those "you'll either love it or you'll hate it" things. :o

The Conservative thread is discussing food issues and I wanted to ask a question. But, respecting their space, I'll ask it here instead. Is anyone else watching the Jamie Oliver TV series called "Food Revolution"?

Now that's a revolution I can support! Your comments?

Probably the reason I hadn't heard of it is d/t no TV access - consequently I don't even look at the TV reviews, etc., in the papers....but I just watched episode #2 on internet - What a fascinating program!
Is this its first season? I would suppose it follows Huntington thru to the end of the series.
Thanx - XL-entLady, for the info - :)
