Birch, always a pleasure ;), and L2R, I can't tell you how glad I am to see you here again! :D:D

I'm thinking that small caps may be more nimble and that the falling dollar will make foreign stocks move up faster, so I'm more heavily weighted to the S and I funds. We'll see if that is the case.

Lady

I could not have said it better lady:). Low dollar is the S and I mover.

Lady,
My ativar is in your honor and I'll leave it for a few days.

GI Joe - enter the Cobra was a fantastic movie. It is everything Special Forces could represent. When you know it's a Mission that can't fail, or when you can't take any chances with the others you call on them to get the job done.

You'd mentioned your husband being in Law Enforcement which is admirable - but being 'undercover' makes him Special Forces from my perspective and 14 years of that day in and day out puts him as high as anyone I've known.

I believe my deep respect for you has been evident throughout but my respect for him is even greater. There is no way I would ever do anything against him - or to offend him - and my respect for you is even greater for holding true to him.

Anyway the woman in the ativar is beautiful - but way more than that she is incredibly smart, has unlimited skills, and impressively played the role of Special Forces caliber.

I think I'm seeing a trend here...up on first trading day of the month, then slight pullback through mid-month..then up again thru the end of the month with a high on the first trading day of the following month...;)

I've played it this way in I fund since March with good gains:D

Thanks very much, L2R!! (You know what for.)

Gang, I don't have much time this morning but I wanted to make sure that you saw these two charts from Jeff Pietch's Market Rewind (click on them to enlarge the data:

Gang, just a quick check-in to say that I'm gritting my teeth and staying the course. I'm trying to pay attention to trends rather than using my gut (which has been too much of a chicklett in this intermediate uptrend). I'm using a 5 day-15 day EMA, and so far it hasn't crossed yet so I'm still in.

I'm still here and still reading but haven't had the time or energy to post much. I'd better get back to work now.

Y'all take care, :)
Lady

5-15 day EMA is a short-term indicator but it seems like it has been a good one for the last 6 months.

Three of my favorite bloggers have posts I want to share with you all.

First up is a snippet from Brett Steenbarger's 8/23/09 Trader Feed:

"...we have seen neutral or bullish trend readings across the eight S&P 500 sectors since the early July lows. Indeed, the most recent week's data (orange bars above) show an improvement in trend to the upside. That is not what we typically see in markets that are topping out. Thus far, stocks have shown strength and ... an impressive ability to bounce back from short-term weakness. That suggests that money on the sidelines has been aggressive in using weakness to find good long side entries....."

Next is from the 8/21/09 post from Carl Swenlin, always one of my favorites (you may remember that Bullitt mentioned him in a recent blog):

"...I have often said that ascending wedge formations are extremely reliable in that they usually break in the expected direction -- down. But we have both a long-term (months to years) buy signal and a medium-term buy signal, and prices are still behaving very well. Under those conditions we have to expect positive outcomes. Of course we have to be concerned by the fact that the market is short- and medium-term overbought, a condition that will provide the "wall of worry" to help move prices higher.
We are in the 6-month period of negative seasonality with the last, and worst, two months dead ahead. Perhaps that will be able to break the market's winning streak. Perhaps not. I find it is always good to be aware of these things, but let prices lead the way.
Bottom Line: Models and price action have us bullish medium- and long-term. And the market's recent failure to mount a credible correction has set the stage for another leg up.

And last, the Market Rewind chart for the week that always gives such a great picture of the overall market:

Hope you enjoy the information as much as I did!

I keep reading financial commentary that talks about the S&P going to 1050 and then down. I think I understand the technical reasons for that, but in this manipulated market I'm not sure that technical analysis is much help anymore. Still, the closer we get to 1050 the more I seem to pay attention to the ticker.

I'm such a chicklett!

I'm such a chicklett!

Lady

I think that is too much our MB thinking seeping in... and it's very hard NOT to get caught up in that.

You have to weigh things out - regardless of the Herd and there is a huge difference between being a 'chicklett' and being 'practical'

If things like what you mentioned are not 'challenging your thoughts' then something is fundamentally wrong.

Show-me was just telling us that his family has expanded by two in these hard times. We're looking at the possibility of our family expanding by five. My daughter's husband has lost his job, they have one more month of savings, but if he hasn't found something by then they're all moving in with us. We have a very nice home but it's small. We bought it for two people to live in, not seven. But family is family.

Times are getting interesting.

Lady

Kind of of like the olden days when 10 to 15 people lived in two rooms! I Pray it brings you closer as a family! Well, you know what I mean:D
Good luck!!

You're a GREAT LADY, XLCELLENT!!:D

Courage, Lady, courage Show-Me. Many others will be doing the same, you're showing the way. My mom told me the other day that my brother (retired military, current diesel jock with 3 dependents, no debt other than 30-yr fixed mort., has recently told her he's just barely making ends meet right now). During the GD, my grandparents moved in with their parents on the farm, father went to city to find work, left wife and kids with the grands. It's deja vu all over again in front of us.

Good evening ma'am,

I don't mean to intrude on your thread, but i feel compelled to inform you that i have used your results as a comparison in my efforts to figure out a mix of FCSI that offsets down days while allowing for some upside potential. I'm new so I hope this link works, but said post can be found here i hope:

By the way, love your signature. I've had that quote on a sticky note at my desk for some time. Came across it in an email from a retiring colleague that i have a lot of respect for. I have since found some of the surrounding context, but not the entire original source. Is that from a book written by that individual? Any more information about the author?

Thanks, have a nice day.

Hi gang!

Just got back from over three weeks on the road. Yes, you read that right. And if you know me then you also know the kind of shape I'm in right now. :o I've explained to my boss that this isn't ever going to happen again and I think we've reached an understanding with each other about what I can and can't do from now on.

So I should be around my MB home more often now. Good thing, it was getting really dusty in here!!

Re my TSP allocation, I'm still in 26% C and 37% in both S and I. I haven't discovered a 'bravery' pill, I just haven't had the time to change my allocation!

Hope everyone is having a good holiday weekend!

Lady

Lady,

Welcome home. Keep that bravery pill in your pocket, you don't need it. Sitting at 103 with a positive 10.20% is a good thing.

burrocrat

A poem called desiderata by Max Erhmann. Very popular with us children of the sixties. Lot's of posters around

More of an essay really as XL said in your home, which I did not see until after I had posted this.
