So it's been a year since our trip to Australia and New Zealand....my...how time flies !!! :eek:

The Australian Aboriginal culture is very much tied to the land…their “Creation Story” involves a snake who came out of a hole in the ground, and created the “world” …mountains, rivers, plants and animals...this happened at Uluru and Kata Tjuta, which is why those places are so sacred to the tribes.

This is NOT a video we shot on our trip, but we saw a demo very similar, at a Cultural Center in the Blue Mountains, near Sydney. The fascinating thing was, the performers we saw said they were NOT from the "local tribe", but they "honored" the tribe's members, and their ancestors, before they danced... :D

The dance style is called “shaky leg”…looks easy, but try it…especially when they kick it in to double time !!! :D

Each dancer is representing a form of wildlife…no doubt you’ll recognize the snake and the bird…

The whole Aboriginal thing was both inspiring, and sad…they’ve been screwed over by the Europeans for hundreds of years…reminded us of what was done to the Native Americans… :embarrest:
