WorkFE's Account Talk

A gynecologist had become fed up with malpractice insurance and HMO
paperwork, and was burned out. Hoping to try another career where skillful hands would be beneficial, he decided to become a mechanic. He went to the local technical college, signed up for evening classes, attended diligently, and learned all he could.

When the time of the practical exam approached, the gynecologist prepared carefully for weeks, and completed the exam with tremendous skill. When the results came back, he was surprised to find that he had obtained a score of 150%. Fearing an error, he called the Instructor, saying, "I don't want to appear ungrateful for such an outstanding result, but I wonder if there is an error in the grade?"

"The instructor said, "During the exam, you took the engine apart perfectly, which was worth 50% of the total mark. You put the engine back together again perfectly, which is also worth 50% of the mark." After a pause, the instructor added, "I gave you an extra 50% because you did it all through the muffler, which I've never seen done in my entire career".

This is a very sad story about a bear.. Everybody should heed the warning to not feed wildlife because they become dependent and cannot forage for themselves anymore.
This is such a tragedy to see what they have done to our country's wildlife!
The photo below captures a disturbing trend that is beginning to affect US wildlife . . . .

Animals that were formerly self-sufficient are now showing signs
of belonging to the Democratic Party..... as they have apparently
learned to just sit and wait for the government to step in and provide
for their care and sustenance.
So much truth to that.:). Those that have been on the system for life will continue to vote for that party, to do otherwise would jeopardize the government that takes care of them, Hence (Socialist) for life.

As we put Feb in the review mirror and head into March will we repeat last Mondays down day or get back on track as usually being a green day. As of the moment futures point to the high road.
No matter the data that will be received this week none will have more impact, as of right now, than the February jobs report do Friday.
Hoping for alittle less up and down this week.

GL everyone

You don't know what you don't know and what you think you know may not actually be knowledge.

I don't know about all that but from noon Friday till today present time there are quite a few people, according to the recent IFT link, that know or think they know. Chances are the 2 new IFT's were burning a hole in the pocket. :D

Futures are green again today. They may actually have a viable plan for Greek debt issues. We'll see but as of right now it releases some of the volatility in the market.
The GM recall will have people a bit nervous today but the overall Auto industry may be strengthening.
Overseas was mixed but fairly uneventful. Today might be a push until the bigger news comes out later this week.
USPS 5 day week? To me cutting hours, employees and other cost cutting is somewhat a short term solution. With all the competition they have now in that industry they need MAJOR restructoring.

GL today everybody

You know, I've been thinking of this issue. I keep trying to merge the FEDEX/UPS model to the USPS. I have never recieved and unwanted package through FEDEX/UPS. But yet , I continually recieve stuff from the Post Office. Now, if you take just that fact alone, means the USPS must have a model in place that delivers unsolicited/unwarranted mail into their model. Plus, if these packages are refused, their should be a penalty.

Add a return charge to USPS bulk mail and then I think you could actually start to:

1. stop unsolicited mail (paper spamming).
2. build a better economic model.
3. Get respect in the delivery world.

My $0.02 :D

P.S. No hijacking intended

This USPS rural carrier has been hearing about a 5 day work week off and on for the last 25 years.

The customer of the USPS is the one who paid the postage. Same for UPS/FedX. The person expecting the UPS/FedX package paid the postage. Thats why you don't get anything you don't want/expect.

Free shipping through UPS/FedX ain't really free. It's built into the price of what ever you ordered. :D

This city letter carrier would LOVE a 5 day work week. :)

Sorry for the thread jack.

No hijacking perceived. These are Federal employees so I care more. No offense to UPS/FEDEX/DHL employees.
I don't have the answer for them but I hope somewhat really smart there figures it out.

Vote Kevin D for Post Master General:D

This is where you and I diverge. To me the USPS was stood up to ensure that information flowed freely between the states to allow for government to communicate. The model was never adjusted to move to "free market" and the country has lived with it since.

New technology and new forms of information transfer DICTATES that the USPS rework its model to accomodate. This new model REQUIRES less people and less overhead.

I do agree that it is a shame to have to cut back on federal employees, but in this instance, it may be one of those necessary evils. Plus, you could also use attrition to drop employees. I hear 54% of Postal workers are set to retire within the next 10 years. What if we dropped personnel 10% a year and adjust the model to incorporate those types of losses. The USPS would then be a more streamlined organization.

Some people may have to move to accomodate this, but the model would also incorporate it as well.

Living out in the country, when I order something, if the company can't send it by USPS, then I don't order from that company. I keep a list of companies that will ship by the US Post Office, because regardless of all the jokes, they always make the delivery. They never get lost.

UPS/FEDEX/DHL have lost so many packages or I have to make a 2 hour round trip to their warehouse to pick up my package, that I've lost count. If I absolutely need something and it must be shipped by the Big Brown Truck, I have it sent to my dad's house. If they have to get outside the burbs, they are just the proverbial lost ball in the tall grass.

The 5 day delivery thing has been talked about for years. I really don't care one way or another, but their was an article in Forbes today about why are Federal employees still getting a raise and talked about an across the board pay cut with the economy being so bad. Which wouldn't suprise me if Big Mo picks up on this idea, especially if the unemployment rates continues to go up.

Sorry FE for the hijack. ;)

Frixxx,
You and I don't differ that much. When I said MAJOR restucturing I meant big time MAJOR restructuring. Do it right the first time and make it viable for the future. It is going to hurt, no doubt.

You misunderstood - the divergence was on Kevin D being Post Master General:suspicious:.... I heard he loses his OWN mind from time to time:laugh:!!!!

You do realize that you are talking about a federal bureaucracy?

Hi Country Boy,

The biggest problem with losing mail service is losing the delivery of our freedom of speech. First Class Mail is protected and without a federal court order, not a state order or county court order, first class mail may not be confiscated. No one can open or read your mail without committing a federal crime. This also means if there is a crime involving First Class Mail it is punishable as a Federal Crime. These types of crimes are money laundering, bank fraud, insurance fraud, child pornography and such on and so forth. Often times criminals cannot be prosecuted for a crime severe enough to land them in prison though Mail Fraud is punishable by Federal Imprisonment with stiff prison sentences and for good reason. It is easy to prove mail fraud and it gives investigators time to get criminals off the streets to continue further investigations. Al Capone was sentenced on mail fraud and so was John Gotti.

Hey joylynn,

You're right and I didn't say anything about losing or doing away with our mail service, that's the last thing I want. I believe I actually said, I much prefer them over the Big Brown Truck types. I meant with the country hemorrhaging money, we have to do something to slow the bleeding or folks won't be able to purchase postage stamps. I've been saying for over a year now, that before we get this under control, I believe we will see a reduciton in our salaries. Will I like it.. heck no. But if that's what it takes, I'm willing to take it for our future generation. But any cut's had better go directly to reducing the deficit and not to any additional gov't spending. Now that's a pie in the sky belief.

It just seems when anything is mentioned to reduce spending, whether it's food stamps, unemployment bennies, Defense cuts, etc, folks say, oh we can't do that, people will get hurt. Well, unfortunately people are hurting now and I think, if Congress doesn't get on the stick and start reducing spending, even more people will be hurting, as time goes on. The old saying ya can't get blood from a turnip, comes to mind. :worried:
