userque's Account talk

so you place the trade at market close? to lock in gains or position differently for tomorrow's action? watching futures overnight and placing a buy or sell for the open or to record at 11:17 am at current market is not an option?

tna is a long 3x etf of small caps? what is the corresponding index, the nasdaq? and is shorting tna the same as long tza?

can i play?

Yep, tna is 3x the Russell 2000. Shorting is essentially the same as long tza.

Sure you can play! I'll modify the tally sheet to allow for intraday trades. We'll clarify things as we go along, but off the top of my head, you would certainly have to post your trades real-time, or in advance. We'll work it out.:) You would have to at least post that you are ging long, short, or to cash. I'll look up the price (based on the time of your post) when I put it on the tally. Or you can specify a time in advance, or specify at OPEN, or at CLOSE...in advance.

It'll be interesting to see how your intraday style compares with our trade-at-close style.:)

You can post your trades starting whenever you're ready. I'll transfer them to the new tally sheet when I finish making it (should be no later than this weekend)

You have $10,000 starting balance.

Good Luck!:D

cool, that was was the easiest 10 grand i ever got, so far. i hope i don't waste it all way like i did my prior 2 fortunes.

i am ok with the place my bets on either the open or close, not really interested in intraday timing. i was just checking the rules and playground fences.

is there trading limits per month whatever? can i buy an open and sell the close same day?

russel 2000, long short or cash, got it. start me off in cash.

If you blow this 10K, you can reset and get another. The tally sheet keeps track of the number of resets a trader does. So far, no one has used one. The Challenges are a good way to develop, test, and perfect a system without having to learn-how-to and then, actually program a spreadsheet. And unlike other commercial, personal online account simulators; I've found the competitive element of trading 'publicly' among people you 'know' more motivational and inspiring and anything else--including trading real, winning, accounts in the lonesome.

The Ranking is determined by the trader's Annualized Rate of Return (computed by the spreadsheet based on the trader's trades) and will stabilize for each trader over time. Thus, new participants can immediately rise to the top. Also, the real benchmark of any investment vehicle is the APR; determined over a meaningful time-frame.

Ok, great. Limiting to Open or Close makes things simpler for me. You would have to place any at-open trades prior to the open. You have more leeway at the close. (Markets continue trading immediately after the open, not so with the close...we don't trade after-market in this challenge.)

No limits per month. $5 per trade. Opening and closing a position within the same day is allowed.

I've got you for CASH.

I delay posting the daily tally for about 15 minutes to allow traders to post their trades, if any. If you miss posting you CLOSE trade before I post the tally, I will update the tally on its next posting to properly reflect your trade.

(If I ever make a mistake, (I'm sure you will...) let me know and I'll correct the tally. All trades etc. are logged in a spreadsheet and easily changed retroactively.)

:)

Discovered that I hadn't programmed my TSP NN to account for the one day delay between the triggering day and the day the IFT is executed. Likely had me IFT'ing a day late (as the last one evidences). Anyway, I corrected it.

Inspiration can come from anywhere, anytime. In this case, it came from my recent discussion in this thread.

I had assumed that trading the CLOSE would yield better results than trading any other period of the day, assuming you can make no more than one trade per day. No need to assume...

I will build a NN to trade the OPEN instead of the CLOSE and compare it to the CLOSE-ONLY NN. Eventually, I will make one with the ability to trade them both...and then, for kicks, I may make one to trade three times per day...etc. etc. The intraday trade times may be based upon the standard intraday Key Turning Points.

Trading the OPEN is appealing as I wouldn't be rushed to crunch numbers right before the close as I usually do now. Also, I can only come close to getting the actually closing data because I can't wait for the close, to trade the close. Trading the OPEN instead would allow me to have all evening etc. to crunch without pressure, and place a market-at-open order. And then forget about it all until the next closing bell.

We'll see.

The difference is S-Fund Challenge is only traded at the close, and it trades a simulated 3x eft of the S-fund.

The TNA game can trade at Open and Close, it trades TNA.

You're playing the TNA game now. Yup, you post your trades here.

You don't have to wait until Monday, all your trades will be recorded and applied to the new tally sheet when it posts next week.

Got it! 6-27 SHORT at Open.

:)

how about you make a new thread called 'tna lose your shorts or win a shirt' or something like that?

i'm not sure your account talk is the right place for it because if i lose i will probably start cussing and throwing stuff, and i try not to do that in other folks' house.

besides, i've noticed that usually only happens right before i get edited or given a time out, and i've been doing so good at not doing that lately.

ok...another good idea from you sir. Sounds like I will, but I like to think things through first. thanks:)

btw, mi casa is like su casa. i don't sweat none of that small stuff hehe. just be able to take as good or better than you give. :D unless a 1-8-7 is happening, this is a snitch-free zone.

maybe tom should put asterisks at our doors.

seriously though, good idea...keeping the minutia separate from the trading stuff
