tsptalk's Market Talk

So will the market rebound tomorrow or slide more?

In a word -oil. Oil is a major factor for the Transports for obvious reasons. If the move up in oil was a temporary emotional reaction, then the worst may be over for the Tranports. However if oil continues higher, it will eat away at their earnings potential and when the cost of transporting goods goes up, their will be a chain reaction into most industries.

wow just this morning i see the number 1 guy being number 1 on tsp list now he's number 5, its the worse i seen i fund goes.

IMO i'm not an expert or anything but base on egypt turmoil i say tomorow wont be a big slide downward, the market was due for a pull back anyway. thats why i think its down so much today

If this Egypt, Libya, Bahrain etc go bonkers....oil prices worldwide rise...panic, rioting, the oils going bonkers...we pay double at the gas pump....back into a deeper recession...market goes to crap. I just hope this does not happen for all our sakes. I'm currently oversees and now pay $4.64 per gallon. Just heard on Fox that avg price for gas in the US is $3.17...but is moving to $4.00 fast...priced in but not hitting the pumps yet! Glad I have a 4 cyclinder....and don't drive much as I'm retired. Hang on...time will tell! I was thinking of buying in to S fund...but am in G fund but with all the mideast trouble...will wait a few days and see what happens.

Dood!! Thats just Hope & Change slappin us in da face!

We can all get by with Green Energy, yes?
I dont know what/where that is but we better get some soon or we might have to (gasp) drill for nasty ol oil again like in the Dark Ages before the Progressives enlightened us as to how the Envirnoment is in dire danger and Mother Gaia is unable to sustain life and will dry up and fall into the sun if we drill (but just in the USA).

Maybe some will now wake up to the disaster this clown show in charge truly is.

I feel that many like me believe there is plenty of oil available - I mean just sitting in tankers offshore and in pipes.
And that the oil market has all been manipulated for years by simply the companys shuting down their distillerys, thereby artificially limiting the refinement of gasoline, and like propane, etc.

We need to bring visibility to this manipulation for broad protest - :suspicious:

Nnuut, comment?
Personally, I think Go Nuclear now - and electric!

Don't you know? The gas in the pumps and the refineries is already paid for. You bump up the pump prices on the news and lower them slowly when the bad news goes away. If the crisis ends ad supply doesn't demminish it's all profit for the gas companies. Too bad they can't just wait till they resupply to tack on the new price. No this would be market driven like in the 80's when there was a lot of independent companies. Now gas and oil are bid on and become speculative with the news and not supply and demand. Supply and demand is when cost goes up you price goes up.
Not profit taking before there even is a shortage.

For the $TRAN chart, I noticed the 20d SMA is w/in 1 point of a crossover of the 50d SMA.
For those EMA fans, the 20d is now w/in spitting distance on a direct path to this crossover.
I'd like to hear comment/reminder again on what this crossover event would mean! Tom? ;)

Buy trains and anything rail related.

could it really be that easy? dang how could i have missed the signs?

did a couple of hydraulic contracting jobs for bnsf bout ten years ago, piqued my interest when warren consolidated the railways, my son's eyes lit up when i gave him my old trains, got a new set for christmas this year with a - yep you guessed it - bnsf locomotive, working on the layout has been on of the most profitable things we've done.

is it too late? all aboard!

I don't know about anyone else, but I tend to respect 3 closes below an MA as a valid sign. Here we have 6 in a row closes under both the 20 & 50 MA the question is should we care? Reason being, as of late the Transports have not been doing a good job of leading the markets.

I'm thinking about trains too. I read they are producing more oil in the Bakken than the pipelines can transport, so its getting moved on trucks and trains too. read that somewhere this morning b4 work, dont recall where.

i can confirm. shhh, it's a secret. we like it quite out here in the last best place. not sure what the markets are doing, but locally beef and bread have been on a major run over a year too, lots of new pickups in town. and lots of land men activity at the courthouse. it might be a bit late but it's paying off still, coal trains run through town all night long. even more during the day.

i guess the real question is: do you like it when you come home from work and flip the switch and the lights come on?

i mean, come on, who doesn't like that?

easy deal.

I know nothing about investing so I am just trying to understand how certain events affect the market. For instance, I understand how some people bail out of the market due to the fear factor caused by the events in Japan. Naturally, markets will go down, even if just temporarily.
On the other hand, wouldn't there be an increase in the amount of reconstruction spending? Wouldn't this cause the markets to rebound? So my question is, how does this increase in spending affect the markets and which of the funds would see the most positive gains?

Now you are thinking "outside the box". Good for you! :D

WHEN you find that out, let me know. :cheesy:
