Hi Everyone:

I am new here and I feel bad I did not come across this website before. It would have save me a lot time and energy. I had been looking for an edge to increase the return in my TSP account for a while. Finally I thought of a strategy that has been working fairly well regardless of market direction. It is very simple and it is more common sense than technical analysis. The assumption is that if the market is at 0 and it is going to 100 it has to pass by 10 before it gets to 100. If it is at 100 and it is going down to 50, it has to go by 90 before getting to 50. I call it the 5-10 Rule. If a fund (F, C, S or I) touches or goes above the 10 MA line it becomes a Buy Signal. When the price line touches or goes below the 5 Day MA line it becomes a Sell Signal. I post the graphs in my non-for profit website (http://www.tspgo.com). As of February 11, 2005, this year (using the spread sheet from TSPtalk.com) I am ahead 1.92%. I have allocated 10% F, 20% C, 30% S and 40% I. I move 100% of the allocation to G and it remains there until a Buy signals comes up.

My current position (02-11-05): G - 60%; I – 40%

Thank you all.

Welcome ! :D

"When the price line touches or goes , " I understand the passing 10 to get to 100 concept - that is why I never lie when I say I am 50 yo.!! But I don't get where you decide to draw your line up/down to.. maybe I should say across to -

.please understand this stuff is a quagmire to me - but I live by the rule: ~there is no such thing as a stupid question.~ :dah::x

Do you do new anaylsis every morning for the funds? Using certain webs? I guess what I am asking is what time of the morning do you make your decision to do or not to do??

thank you for sharing - grandma

Thank you Grandma.
I try to do new analysis every night after the TSPfund prices are posted. I enter the current prices in a database to generate the graphs. It is a very tedious process but I do not know a better way. If a buy signal is generated I enter my order right then. (see graph below. If the attachement does not work you can see it at http://www.tspgo.com/#ifund)

Welcome, TSPGO!

What format do you need the share prices in? I can prolly automate that for you.

Search here for "Quicken" and look for the share price updater thread.

Thanks, Rolo

Allow me to describe my entire tedious process and perhaps you ( or someone else here) can help me simplify it. I know there must be an easier way. It would help a great deal if I could eliminate some of these steps.

1.- Sometime in the evening I will go to the TSP Website and check the new share prices.

2.- I enter the new share prices to a Lotus 1-2-3 Spreadsheet.

3.- I move to another area of the spreadsheet where I increase the range to include the new prices

4.- Paste the new graphs in my web page designer program and delete the old graph.

5.- Open the new graph with MS Paint to add comments and trend lines.

6.- Save the new graph

7.- Upload the new graphs (F, C, S, I) to the website.

Thanks again and have a great day.

Wow...that's still around? I haven't used that since DOS 5, heh.

Do you have Excel? You can paste the share prices right from the TSP web site into it, then edit and save your graphs as a web page/gif for uploading.

Try pasting into Lotus and see if it works, just have the colums in the same order as tsp.gov.

Thank you Rolo:

I'll try that. I'll let you know how it goes.

Have a great day.

I don't seea new post in your account listing, so are you staying the same? I am unsure where to be drawing lines on your 5-10 rule charts - I guess I need hands-on training for that. You say `follow to the dot' which I do understand is simply a very specific instruction, not a place, cuz I don't see any dots !! :dah: But I do get the impression you have done something different with your funds.

:#Whatever grasp I had of thisSunday is gone today !!!

Thank you - I hopeRolo'ssuggestionswork out well for you - you are doing an awfully lot of labor there !!

p.s.: Also, in looking at http://tspgo.com/tspgo5_10ift.htm, your last post there is on the 10th when you were 100% g. Thanx again for any assist! !!!:)

1. I am staying the same. It just happened that being new to the website I made a little mess by posting in the wrong place. Tom helped me to clear the mess. I am being careful not to do it again. I am slowly learning how to post.

2. As far as drawing lines you don't have to worry about it. I have done that for you. Look at the graph under each Fund. The Red line is the price line. The yellow line is the 5-days MA and the blue line is the 10 days MA. If the red line on its way down crosses the yellow, I sell. If the red line on its way up crosses the yellow line, I buy.

3. It takes me some time to copy, paste, upload, etc. That's why I don't update http://tspgo.com/tspgo5_10ift.htm all the time. That's where TSPtalk comes handy. I will keep posting my transactions as soon as I update the chart.

I am invested as follows:

Effective 02-14-05 (Entered 11:30 am EST) G = 10 F = 0 C = 20 S = 30 I = 40

Now I am waiting for the F-price line to cross the yellow line to buy back (10%), for the C-Fund price line to cross (down) the yellow line to sell. (20%), the S-Fund to cross (down) the yellow line to sell (30%), the same for I (40%)

Please look at the charts for F, C, S and I and let me know if you can see where when the buy signals were triggered.

This is the link for the I-chart: http://www.tspgo.com/index.html#cfund

This is for the s-chart: http://www.tspgo.com/index.html#sfund

This is for the c-chart: http://www.tspgo.com/index.html#cfund

I appreciated your comments. It tells me the information I am providing is notas clear to my readers as it is to me.

Suggestion are really appreciates.

For 02/16/05

Invested G= 10, F=0, C= 20, S=30, I=40.

I am expecting a significant resistance at SPX 1217 -1218. I will be throwing the book out of the window and bail out whenthe SPX hits 1218. If it does I will wait for the retracing to take effect before I get back in, or I will wait until it stays convincingly above 1218.

God bless you all!

tspgo,
I really appreciate that you are explaining the reasoning behind your moves. Don't forget to post it in your "tspgo account". This is your "tspgo Account Talk" forum. Also, are you making the transfer on 2/16 or was it done on 2/15 - effective 2/16?

If it is effective 2/16, in the future you will need to enter it here prior to the noon ET deadline the day prior. If you do it the same time you make the transfer you'll be fine.

For example, if you want to be 100% G for 2/17, just as you need to get the transfer into TSP, before 12 noon ET on 2/16, you need to post that here by then as well. If you post it anylater, it looks a little fishy.

Thanks and good luck!
Tom

I like your ideas. Where are you finding your information on the 5 DMA ?

on big charts I can see 5 day Simple Moving Average (SMA) and Exponential Moving Average (EMA) which would you follow?

Tom:

My current position is G= 10, F=0, C= 20, S=30, I=40 and it was effective on 2/14/05. I believe it is posted in my "tspgo Account". I also mentioned it here on 2/14/05.

Thank you for the observation.

Teufel:

I don't think you can find SMA's on Big Charts for the TSP funds. I create my own. I take the price of the last 5, 10, 20, and 50 days of the TSP funds, average them and plot them in a graph for each fund. I try to update my charts every night after the TSP prices are posted. To see the most recent charts go to http://www.tspgo.com and click on the fund. (see yesterday c-fund chart below)

Happy trading,

TSPGO!

Oh,I see. You were just reiterating the original allocation. I thought you were making a new move. Sorry. My bad. :x

Good luck!

I like your site. The low med and high risk ideas are nice also. You can get a SMA and EMA on big charts if you choose interactive charting and drop down the indicators box on the left. Is there any way you could add the dates at the bottom of your charts on your site? I notice that your calculations and the SMA are extremly close. Thanks I have created a shortcut to you site.
