There is a bunch of smart cookies lurking on this board.

Correct. The board is yours.

24 stockbrokers signed an agreement under a buttonwood tree in the late 1700s which is the origination of New York stock market.

Answer for the extra credit: Ben Stein played the role of an economics teacher in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Amoung his other roles, he is an commentator on economics (among other things).

What was the name of the agreement that started Wall Street? (first word is alternate for sycamore)

Choice of four:
1. Buttonhole Agreement
2. Buttonwood Agreement
3. Button-up Agreement
4. Shut-up-and-trade Agreement

"Anyone? Anyone?"

(For extra credit, what economist/entertainer/humorist/former Presidential speech writer (for Nixon/Ford) is noted for his dry statement "Anyone? Anyone? in a movie in which he plays an economics teacher?)

Monty

Since Buttonwood is another name for the sycamore tree spieces, I would have to say #2.

No extra credit for me:nuts:

The times they are a-changin'

Thanks for being good sports about the magic math thing.:D

I grew watermelons while living in Sumter, SC in the 70s. They grow themselves, must like sand. Took a bunch with me to NH once, no one would believe I grew em.

Now, about that tree. I am leaving for two weeks at Yellowstone park so may not be able to play. Do they have internet in MT?:suspicious:

Buttons are in the right direction . . . but this is earlier than Goldman Sacks agreement. And the Goldman Sacks building is on Broad, not Wall, Street.

I find it curious this summer's garden is my first try at growing melons; plants are getting a good start. Must be coincidence.

Bringing us back to trivia, and more on point, the market . . .

What does an alternative name for the sycamore tree have to do with the stock market?

Did it have something to do with the buttons that the CEO of GS used to button up his fly after urinating on Ben Franklin's grave after he had signed an agreement with the SEC to run the plunge protection team for the government under the Buttonwood Sycamore tree? :D

I work for the VA . . . but undergrad in chemical engineering, and, even more helpful . . . lots of past work with my daughter explaining Algebra.

.About them melons...yeah I see that the five pounds of fiber is now effectively 2% of the total so 1% is now 2.5 pounds and 100%=25 pounds. I still think you guys must work for OMB:nuts:

Would you believe USDA and also grow melons?:laugh::cool:
