I’m new on this site and forum. Unfortunately my tsp check {Rmd) was missing and was determined that was cashed by someone other than my self. Stolen from mail stream. Calls to thriftline has not provided any results. Only that was past on etc and they will never provide info to who or who I can follow up to. Letters have gone unanswered? Anyone have any insights on who should be contacted. Thanks

When you say mail stream, i assume you mean US Postal Service? Have you contacted US Postal Inspectors and made any kind of report with them? I'm guessing TSP told you the check was cashed by someone else? I think TSP would provide that info to a Postal Inspector if they contacted them about a stolen check missing from the mail stream.

You could also contact your Congressional Rep. and relate what's going on with TSP, but i don't how much good that will do.

It sounds like someone stole from you, so you need to get the law involved.

Unfortunately that is the problem. Tsp handles this way. My normal monthly are sent by direct deposit but any Rmd payments due at end of year are sent by regular usps mail. Another snafu by tsp

Yep all involved. Treasury dept, usps inspection etc. However TSP for whatever reason will no issue another payment. Figure that my money and they will not reissue.

If possible, just another reason NOT to keep your money in TSP and move it to another financial institution. Good luck I hope it gets resolved.

Call and write your Congressman and Senators. They want your vote and tend to take voters contacts with them regarding problems with federal agencies serious enough that the agencies actually hear from them. In my career, I saw our agency respond to public individuals routinely because they had contacted their Congressionals, and the Congressionals contacted the head of the agency -- and that "****" rolls down hill.

Thx for posting this. It's a big deal. Plus, I will have to start making RMD withdrawals next year, so its good to know that withdrawals made between end-of-year and tax filing deadline are mailed.

Hope things work out for you. Let us know.

Thanks for letting us know Woody! I will start RMD withdrawals next year! I wish you good luck in getting your money back!

Indeed. Thanks for telling this sad story, wish there was better way to resolve than what you've heard here. I'm a ways a way yet from RMDs, if enough people yell in the right direction(s), maybe this will be resolved by the time I get there. If not, this is great heads up to track hard, move $ out, and/or ensure pull a little excess above rmd before end of December annually or all the above.

To avoid any issues I would suggest that you include the RMD distribution and use financial distribution which is located as a source under distribution now.

Well if this mess doesn't get fixed, hopefully there will be a new contractor that has a clue by the time I get to RMDs :D (and if I still even have a TSP account...not sure how long I can take this)
