Steel_Magnolia's Account Talk

Steel_Magnolia,

I love the color scheme. I'm very much a pattern analyst and seeing the major red to maroon is a great at-a-glance warning of danger. The yellow/orange and blue to green is a great for positive visual clues.

Thanks for sharing this. Another good tool to add to our retirement investing toolkit.

I second that. I absolutely love this chart! :)

Malyla, jpc, and Birch, thank you all for your visit!

jpc, Birch is our PermaBull. And for the last year and a half he has been absolutely right. I don't know if this momentum shift is going to last long or not. And it's so hard to decide what to do when you only have 2 IFTs in a month! All we can do is gather as much data as we can and make decisions accordingly. I guess it would depend if you like risk or if you need to protect your seed corn.

Malyla, I'm so glad you like the visual! You have such a logical mind that if it works for you then it makes me more comfortable that it's doing what I want it to do.

And, off topic, have you seen the "new" program that Science channel is broadcasting? Firefly will have a whole new set of fans now! And you were absolutely right about the two graphic novels. I loved them and I thought they plugged holes in the plot lines very well. Thanks for recommending them to me!

Have not seen Firefly but just googled it. Looks like I'm gonna have to watch it. Thanks.:)
You can call me Judy. ;)
jpc is son from previous marriage. My first born will always be special.:)

Cool. I didn't even know Science Channel was showing Firefly. I'm glad you like the graphic novels. I've been watching Castle and loving Nathan Fallon's character (Best Dad Ever!). His reprise of Captain Mal for the Halloween episode was hilarious. Then he did an episode where he spoke Mandarin and referenced Firefly - very fun. Firefly in letter box on TV - awesome. Thanks.

Thank you, Judy. And can you believe what a wacko day this has been in the stock market? Look at what the IWM has done in the last three hours:

If it stays like that for a day or two Birch will be happier than piggys in a pea patch. LOL

Believe me, I've been watching with greedy eyes. If onle EFA would move up a little.
Yes, Birch for sure will be in 7th Heaven. I love his resilience and determination. Glad he's in this forum or I'd be one of those people dumping at a loss and still hoping to make money.

Here are the last three screen shots of my TSP analytical chart. First one taken at about 9 am MDT yesterday:

Then the screen shot taken at about noon MDT yesterday:

And now here is the current one, taken at about 930 am MDT today:

Is this part of a continued upward trend? Or the last hurrah before a correction? Well, I have no idea because my crystal ball is in the shop for repairs. But I am long the S and I Fund analogs.

One thing to note on the charts above. Do you see the uptick in volume buzz when there is a measurable move in or out of a fund?

Ann

I see a big jump to the "F" fund. Lot's of fear, I guess. I'm staying put until I get a gain. :) It's do or die for me. :D

We have to remember that, given the way the dots are moving, there may be a possibility that the increase in volume buzz in AGG is because people are moving OUT of the fund.

Mom and pop are indeed moving out of bonds back into equities - that has been the case for several months. Those stuck in municipal bonds are going to get hurt big time.

I got my very first ever dividend check today! One hundred twenty-eight bucks. I feel like framing the thing. <Ann with an embarrassed grin on her face>

If you reinvested that $128 how many more shares would that buy. Three months later you could be looking at $130.

Congrats! There was a time in my life (a few weeks ago) that a dividend sounded so boring to me. But I can see where having a bunch of dividend checks sent to my house every month would be comforting after retirement.

Today was a good day! Could have been better. I hesitated on two divergent views and couldn't reap the total benefit of being in just one fund. Next time I'll take a stand on one and deal with the consequences. :D

Just wanted to say thanks for the website hint.

I set mine up a few days ago and included DWCPF too. It only list N/A for the strength and shorts part, but i can live with that. I just kept the Russ 2000, so it's covered.
I went with the simpler green vs red which allowed me to include the abv averages only. Idea being that I saved some real estate for the charts on the right. Which BTW are nice and function 100% (even the DWCPF!!!). I've only found a couple other sites that even had the S fund back data and none of them could do this!

Just awesome and thanks for making my week. I don't post much as I tend to have a competitive streak and I'm a firm believer that I'm almost always right :) . But you really do deserve a big THANK YOU.

Pete

Today's market action made it one of those strange ones where the morning and afternoon had opposite personalities. Here it what today did to my analytical chart, as of market close:

The S Fund analog, IWM, is still looking good. But when I looked at the "5-day price trend vs. market" and the "30-day Price trend vs. market" I noticed I noticed that the C Fund analog, SPY, has the most momentum.

I currently have a position in IWM, have a limit order for SPY, and have sold my position in EFA, the I Fund analog.
