The TSP software can not restrict you from doing a less then 1% IFT
because the alternative is to demand that you make whole percentage
moves. Should they do this and you have 50.1% in any fund, this would
stop you from moving .1% of your money. In which case, they would be
liable for the loss of money that occurs until they allowed you to move
it back to the (G) Fund.
The benefit of doing this is the actual accumulation of shares at a lower
price. Yes, your balance can drop significantly while waiting for good things
to happen. So caution is always advised when testing this method. I've
started out with 5% in each risk fund because I couldn't afford the loss
if I had 25% in each fund. But when you assign a level of risk tolerance
to this method and allocate only what you feel you can stomach during
a down turn, the losses will come that much easier, in hopes of achieving
greater gains. One may actualy describe this method as a "Rebalancing"
of your account, just as the (L) Funds do automatically for you. Each
night they take your ending balance a redistribute your money back into
each fund, at the same percentages, that the (L) Fund holds based on
its designated time line.

Squalebear, I used your method yesterday and bought 139 shares S-Fund @11.10.
My last IFT was on 11-10(82-G, 18-S) and using the same allocation, yesterday I added
139 shares of the S-Fund.
I added shares, using Quicken and get a true gain or loss percentage. Thanks.

With 18% in the (S)Fund, your risk tolerance is about the same as mine.
I spread it out to all three funds based on my desire to be diversified. I'm
really glad this is starting to come into the light. I saw the possible good
in what I'm doing and felt it important enough to share. If you end up
losing all of your investment dollars because of it, simply blame Birchtree
and the FRTIB as we're Buying and Holding. :nuts: (just kidding Birchy) :nuts:

I must be dense SB. I have 50% C right now and I have had some loss. Are you saying that each day I can rebalance to 50%? AND IF SO WHAT IF IT IS SHOWING LIKE 47% C? Am I limited in rebalancing back to 50 if I think it is going to be a down day. Sorry for not understanding. I would like to rebalance to 50% on the way down to the bottom.

First, your not dense ! Its hard enough to figure out the restriction rules,
no less trying to figure out the <1% IFT ability. The answer is as follows;
Your orignal allocation was 50% (C). However, you allowed the losses to
drag your balance percentages down to 47%. If its currently 47.1%, you
can round it up to 48%(C). If its 47.9%, again, you can round it up to
48%(C).
I"M ASSUMING YOU HAVE USED UP ALL OF YOUR REGULAR (2) IFT's.

Your welcome Lady, I wish I could give 350z all the links we've had this
discussion in. He had some questions and its been time consuming to
re-type answers into the wee-hours of the morning. But its important.
I agree, Futures have changed dramatically since I last checked.
Maybe today or tomorrow. If positive today, I may waive doing a
<1% IFT today.

Thats a super idea, I'll ask Tom (when time allows) to move or copy any
posts that references the <1% topic at hand. With concerns to the article
you mentioned, I'll read it ASAP. We've heard from Retirement Seminar
speakers that new rules we're being considered a couple months back. A
news article would give validity to the rumors (somewhat). But to ask the
FRTIB to have transparency concerning their plans which affect our money,
is simply unrealistic. Frustrating as hell too !
