RodMeister,

I was never fortunate enough to own them. Can you please tell me why you sold them?

Thanks

I sold them because they were laggards and the sectors were weak. Fortunately for me, I sold HD the day after the resignation of the CEO- when shares rose 3%.

I should have sold WMT in Oct when it hit 51.

WMT began 2006 @ 46.23 and ended at 47.55

HD began 2006 @ 41.57 and ended at 41.07

They are each now at 48.08 and 40.83, respectively.

I could have made a few more pennies on WMT, but overall I feel I made a good call.

I now have my eye out for a good tech stock. (CSCO perhaps???)

look at a 10 yr chart of WMT...

I would not want to be a buy and hold of that stock...

I think now would be a good time to buy HD since housing has pretty well hit bottom and can only go up from here... especially with summer around the corner.

BUT, I'm through with it.

I've been accumulating HD since 7/15/02 when I paid 29.87. Since then I have added more shares at; 25.44, 28.22, 38.78, 33.05, 34.56, and will more than likely buy more real soon. I'm holding out for the $50 pop and then a 2 for 1 split.

I've been toying (thinking about) with Black Box Corp.

Started a HD DRiP for my daughter when she was born in 1998. Don't have a lot, but have been holding since. Not too thrilled with the performance, but I plan on holding for a long long time.

It should pick up in the summer.

Hey, Warren gobbled up some USG in October at $46, and I see it's still at $53, with a mean recommendation of 1.5, and a 1 yr target of $70....somebody loan me some money!

GA, interesting... who's Warren... Buffett? Where'd you get that info? Re: loaned money, I looked into enabling my brokerage account for margin activity, but doubt I'll make a move with it since its at a whopping 10% interest!!!

Rod, I'm also eyeing CSCO... although I feel I'm two days late from a good entry point. What are you targeting? I like what I've heard about them expanding the home network with media providers and Scientific Atlantic boxes. Also thinking about clearing out my kids' savings and getting some DIS for the kiddies and play as a buy & hold. Like Goldman Sachs too since everyone thinks they can repeat in '07. The dudes on Fast Money were saying if this week's IPO for Fortress Investments (FIG) trades at a 15 multiple, then the market's gotta love GS at those levels... around $260 from their current ~$213'ish.

Hey, JK, of course I would never borrow money to invest (well, I did beg my husband for an interest-free loan - the same day I hit him up for a 2 carot pear shape diamond - I didn't get either one!)....

I want some CSCO too.

Looking back, I'm very happy I made this sell. Especially the HD which is now @ 26.00- thanx to the housing slump.

WMT is still hovering around 47.00-48.00.

I did have a bunch of HD. Held it too long and finally sold for $36.20.

I sold 828 shares of Walgreen today - held it way to long. Lost about 10% when they reported last Sept. and didn't want to see what they report tomorrow. I bought Verizon VZ, Chesapeake Energy CHK, Petroleum Brasileiro PBR, Jacobs Engineering JEC, and Annaly Capital NLY today. I hope they are recession proof.

I hope they are recession proof.

That's what I try to do with a little over a third of my ROTH portfolio. GE, T, PG, DUK, JNJ, are not only recession proof (I hope), they have historically paid consistant dividends and decent yields. I have 14 stocks in my ROTH's and have actually held it's value pretty well, better than I've done with my TSP. :( So I'm more of a buy and hold type on my Roth's though I have a few that will be sold, given enough growth and enough shares to make it worth while this early in my ROTH building. Though following Griff has helped me get back on track after that one horrible week.

Merry Christmas to all,
CB

Boxholder,
That's a pretty good stake you had in WAG. How long did it take you to accumulate those shares?

I don't understand how LOW and HD work. Even when the housing boom was happening, the shares were stagnant. Now that housing is in the gutter, both stocks have collapsed. As a long term investor, I'm considering diving in to either LOW or HD if they ever enter $20-21 land. Personally, I prefer to shop at Lowe's.

I own a nice block of HD and as long as they keep increasing their dividends I'll continue to hold and may increase my exposure after the first of the year when I can raise soime cash. Anyone own any Mosaic - they should be declaring a split pretty soon.
