S&P 500: The Crock-pot of Indexes

__Sometimes I like to filter out the indexes to look for commonalities. This helps me understand what pushes and pulls the markets in unison (and what doesn't).

Comparing the S&P 500 with other indexes, if you have the S&P 500 you also have 1.23% of the Transports, 48% of the NASDAQ 100, and 31% of the Dow Jones Industrials

There are 6 shared companies listed in the S&P 500, the NASDAQ 100, and the Dow Jones Industrial Average. An equally weighted portfolio of these 6 holdings would yield a meager .68% YTD. But a portfolio with those holdings based on the current weights of the S&P 500 would be up 14.18% YTD

Microsoft Corp, 17.43% YTD
Apple Inc. 11.28% YTD
Amazon.com Inc, 20.99% YTD
Cisco Systems, Inc. -9.90% YTD
Amgen Inc. 3.64% YTD
Intel Corp, -39.38% YTD

By Weight these 6 holdings comprise:

18.75% of the S&P 500
14.43% of the NASDAQ 100
20.64% of the Dow Jones Industrial Average.

Flipping it over:

If you have the NASDAQ 100, of its 101 holdings, 84 of those holdings are listed in the S&P 500 and by weight comprise 90% of the NASDAQ 100 & 48% of the S&P 500.

If you have the Dow Jones Industrial Average, all 30 of its holdings are listed in the S&P 500 and by weight those holdings comprise 31% of the S&P 500.

If you have the Dow Jones Transportation Average, of its 20 price-weighted holdings, 13 of those holdings are listed in the S&P 500, and by weight comprise 1.23% of the S&P 500.

Most of this was hand-filtered using data from Slickcharts.com
