What percentage is the S&P up at this point on the year? I just calculated my own return last night and I'm at 10.25% now.
What do you know? The S&P 500 is up only 9.1%. Hmmm! For some reason the C fund is up 10.99%. That doesn't sound right. I've never seen that big of a difference between the two. Anyone see a flaw in my thinking?

S&P 500 close 12/31/03 = 1111.92
S&P 500 close 12/30/04 = 1213.55 = +9.14%

C fund share price 12/31/03 = 11.65
C fund share price 12/30/04 = 12.93 = +10.99%

So Mike, we are both beating the S&P 500 with one day to go.

That is really strange. Of course, no index fund perfectly mimics the index it tracks, and I'll gladly take this situation over the alternative of an index fund underperforming. :^

What I find equally strange is the fact that the C fund didn't move for three days. That is truly twilight zonish for a stock fund. :shock:

Strange things happen! But, it's a bullish market right now. Play the stocks (equities), whatever?

Stay the course with your plan! The bulls are in now! Tomorrow will tell!

Going back 5 years to1999, the largest discrepancy was .15% This is almost 2%! Something is strange. And yeah, we would be screaming bloody murder if it went the other way. :)

I think I found my flaw. The S&P 500 was up 26.38% in 2003 but the C fund was up 28.69%. Same scenario. I believe it has to do with dividend income. I heard someone on CNBC talk about an 11.3 % (including Friday's mid-day gain) annualized return for the S&P 500 this year and we see that it is only up 9.14% (as of Thursday) so I knowI'm missing something. I'm still researching.

Ya, if you enable display of events/dividends on bigcharts.com, you will see them for SP500.

Performance update since 12-31-04:

G = +1.217%

I = +0.646%

F = +0.096%

C = -1.472%

S = -3.191%

Can anyone tell me what will cause the C, S and IFunds to outperform the G Fund in 2005?

Daily fluctuation over time will out perform the G & F as a rule. G up .13 for the year, S up .09 yesterday in one day. Does that help.
