Idiot has pension envy.

And i work in construction plan review and inspections for a middle sized city. No unions. One of the ONLY pension systems in Illinois that is close to 100% funded while the state pensions get raided by their elected officials. I think i put in 4.5% and the city puts in 6.5%. I like the job and there is no politics at my level, nor in the department that i work in. Thank God for that. They all like what they do and dont want the other guys job or title. Whew.

Back in the fifties and sixties private organizations did have all the perks. Government workers caught on and left for greener pastures. Then the government had to start attracting more qualified people so they upped the ante. Now it is like he says, its better to work for the government right now.

Sounds like heaven... I worked in nuclear power for awhile as a contractor... that was u.g.l.y.

i stopped reading after the part he says federal workers have free health insurance, this guy obviously doesn't know what the **** he's talking about

That is true, he did generalize a lot, but I have relatives that work for cities in CA and they DO have free health care... however, for the fed folks, ah, no...

Interesting, only time my health care was free was when I was in the military, but active duty military should have free coverage.

Haha. I wouldnt exactly call it free healthcare when i served. Any of those benefits are built into or should i say out of your base pay. When i was a pvt i could barely afford cigarettes and a beer.

$744.69 a month, no specialty pays and no housing. Thats a whopping $8,936.28 a year !! woohoo

haha i remember those days. but man it has its perks, chow hall food was actually pretty good. biscuits & gravy & ham / cheese / sausage omlettes for free, can't beat that :)

and of course being 18-22 and being able to get away with eating like that and staying thin was awesome, too

yeah, and a few years after i left, my cholesterol was flippen 285 and triglycerides over 400. Of course i had stopped running, upped my alcohol and cigarette intake.

Im back down now. After hitting 35, i quit smoking and started running again. Almost ten years now. Cholesterol under 200. I think its the wine actually.

Yeah, me too... but mine was over 350, no kidding...

Still overweight and try to run, but I always find an excuse not to...

nope. had to join the eat healthy & exercise 5-6x a week club to keep the pounds off. I'm not old yet, but old enough to notice a severe decrease in metabolism since being 21 haha.

dang that's super high, glad you got that down. and congrats on quitting smoking! I quit back when i was 26 and it was one of the hardest things I've ever done, but very worth it. a lot of people never do, it takes some serious willpower.

Um, not for us Squids...
No, instead you got mid-rats. Yummy. Well, at least they were better then the MRE's. i was so sick of that schiat. Then again when we ran low on food on ship, it seemed like hot dogs and pb&j was all day. You guys need to get to port more often. When food runs low, stop off.

Nuclear powered submarines don't get to pull in just anywhere... Yeah, mid-rats were good when it was chicken nuggets! 4 meals a day and I stayed thin... a quarter of a century and BAM, 2 meals a day and I get fat...
