RealMoneyIssues' Account Talk

More ways to invest your money
Coming in June. In addition to the TSP funds you know and love, you’ll have more investment options. As long as your account meets certain eligibility requirements, you’ll have the option to invest some of your TSP savings in a mutual fund window for additional fees. Unless you make a change to your investment elections, your current TSP investment choices will remain the same for both future contributions and current allocations.

  • $55 annual administrative fee to ensure that use of the mutual fund window does not indirectly increase TSP administrative expenses for TSP participants who choose not to use the mutual fund window
  • $95 annual maintenance fee
  • $28.75 per trade fee
  • Other fees and expenses specific to chosen mutual funds

Absolute rip off. Assume a 1% fee from the mutual fund itself and those fees add up to 2.79% ($279) for a $10,000 investment. Compared to 0.059% ($5.90) for the S Fund.

All of this to give the illusion of how much they're "doing for us" and how much they "value us as end users of TSP" and "how much they care".
When in reality, the number one request from TSP users is more IFT's a month, in which they are fully aware of this and yet choose to flat out IGNORE us on this issue.
The Director and TSP at large simply DO NOT CARE and will continue to ignore this issue and do whatever they need to in order to give the appearance of "making things better" while keeping their cushy 6 figure plus jobs.

Retirement in 2023, lets see if I am now a buy and holder...

You might be surprised at how conservative you can become with anything related to your money in retirement. It’s just not the same as that paycheck. We’ve been conditioned to rely on that dollar all of our lives, so don’t think that desire to earn will go away easily.

At least in my case, the stakes seem even higher now that I’m working with money that was earned versus money that will be earned.

So... I am on leave prior to my retirement in December. I'll log almost 38 years in the Navy, a true Socialist.

Now that my life is settling down 🤣🤣🤣 I may be on here more, but at the same time, I am lowering my risk. Only 200k in my TSP, so need it to last another 20 years 🤦*♂️

Have a great Father's Day Week-end everyone!!
