Well, in this country you have the freedom to disagree. I, on the other hand, feel we have gone too far in some cases to strip us of our Constitutional freedoms.

For instance? Not to get into technical details, but if you decide to travel by air, you are subject to screening. Just like going to the superbowl, going to court, or entering a military installation. All by choice of course.

well played. and you're absolutely right... but, does this not make you feel safer. I know this is reactionary, but would 9/11 would have happened if this screening were in place?

(1) Not safer, sorry. There are other ways, less PC, to do the same thing. Having to be PC to calm the minority (numbers, not race) whiners makes many jobs very difficult.

(2) Specifically no, but that doesn't mean they wouldn't have found another way to cause devistation. It is EXTREMELY difficult to find, track, and stop a determined person who is willing to kill themselves in the process...

Well... Anyone long is hurting, but anyone short has done well. The bounce today moved the folks in equities up the AT and J-Trader's move to short put the med/short term systems at a 66% short moving the overall OCD system to a sell, 7 days late.... The obvious evidence of a turn in the market seemed to be when Uptrend went to safety and the next day MrJohnRoss did... Going to safety last Thursday would have saved a lot of pain these last few days. Well, its late.

There are plenty of instances in history of governments using "safety" as a guise of keeping themselves in power at the expense of individual liberties.

As for feeling safer...
Yes, 2 year olds getting patted down makes me feel safer.
Grandmothers who need canes being told to walkthrough security checkpoints makes me feel safer.

Give me a break.

And now TSA is offering a way to pay to get by security? It's a freaking boondoggle. It has very little to do with safety.
 
It's true, we fell right into the 9/11 trap. We got attacked and the fear mongers took over...impinging on our freedoms and destroying our economy in the name of safety and security. We were provoked and we subsequently waged a war on ourselves. There were many who predicted that would be the outcome, most of them were defamed for their lack of "patriotism".

Not necessarily, I have said before that this OCD chart could be a contrarian signal...
 
Ok, I just don't get it... There is so much down pressure on this market, so many indicators that show weakness, and the Eurozone is still showing that it is still a huge economic issue (Spanish yields)...

YET THE MARKETS KEEP GOING UP... REALLY ?!?!?!

I am SO tired of being on the wrong side of the market...

BTW, this is a BT-Free zone...

Some of us see it differently. There was panic selling in 2008 and since that time stability and growth have been returning, albeit sloowwwly. And as far as markets are concerned, healthy companies are sitting on hoards of cash that can be deployed and invested to increase profitability. Unemployment may be relatively high but the vast number of people have jobs and, like us, keep purchasing assets/securities/mutual funds/what-have-you for their retirement plans. Housing seems like a less safe investment alternative than it used to be. Honestly I can't figure out why you are fighting it and thinking it will keep going down. Yes, at some point it will but this is no 2008.

Europe is Europe and the complexities/risks of a monetary union without a strong political union (federal gov't) have been known, despite being ignored by many. These are strong risks for these countries but markets/companies have global diversity and the world keeps turning. Stuff still gets bought.
 
We have a launching pad in place for more acceleration. Going all the way back to 1928, the current bull market ranks as the ninth longest ever. Even more impressive is the fact that of the nine bull markets that lasted longer, none saw a gain of 100% during their first three years. Based on the history of prior bulls that have hit the three year mark, year four has also been positive.
 
Another thing to consider is growth in emerging economies. Just because the western developed world may be somewhat stagnant (relative to the previous 50-100 years) it doesn't mean a lot of people in underdeveloped nations aren't buying a lot of stuff from global companies.

Growth, investment, innovation and movement of peoples and ideas are on a tear. It's a long-term trend with tremendous momentum. I'll play the speed bumps along the way but I'm certainly not going to take any long term positions against that tremendous momentum.
