My son lives and works in Blacksburg. I was recently down there the for a week for my Granddaughter's birthday. Beautiful country down there. :smile:

Yes, I would agree it is beautiful. I have a cousin that lives in Roanoke and other cousins further south in Bristol, Abingdon and Damascus. It is always a treat when I head down for a visit. Absolutely love riding the Harley on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Last summer my wife and I purchased a 16 foot Scamp camper as a retirement gift. I have already booked a week in Niagara Falls and a week in Portland Maine for this summer. All this talk of home is making me think that a week at Hungry Mother State Park may fit in nicely between the other two trips. I hear they have a very nice RV park with full hook ups there....:1244:

Back from Niagara Falls and ready for a little R&R. Grandchildren can really take it out of you. Had a blast though!!!

Next up is a motorcycle trip with my biker buddies to " Grand Canyon of the Northeast" in PA, later this month.

On the investment front, I am currently invested 50% G Fund, 50% L2020. I did pretty well in June, making up most of that devastating loss I had in May. Waiting to see what happens with China talks before making my next move. Being patient and happy with my current allocation.

I never heard of the Grand Canyon of the Northeast but I think I'll check that out someday.
One of my favorite old motorcycle rides was the old Route 40 up the mountain past Cumberland and through the mountains on the way to the

Youghiogheny River in Ohioplyle, PA. on my BMW R60.
Great rides on old country mountain roads. Joined a poker run of at least 60 bikes on the top of that mountain past Cumbefrland, MD.

I hope you enjoyed Niagara Falls. In the interest of grandkids and humor, did you notice any collateral damage in the area? My son, DIL and four grands visited there last week.

More yukyuk of no particular interest, last time I visited the Canadian side of Niagara Falls we had a pickup full of stuff we had collected from various relatives and places. I never gave it a thought when we went in to Canada. When we returned the immigration official asked if we had anything to declare. We said no and he let us pass after a hard look at all the stuff. This was in the 90's so times were different I suppose.

Hope you make it up there someday. It is well worth the trip.

As for the camper, it did quite well with one exception. One night we had a pretty bad thunderstorm. Lots of rain and wind. I like a dummy did not check the weather and left the awning up. Bad move...:embarrest: The good news is that it will only cost me $115. to replace the center support pole. Been lectured twice now on putting the awning away before retiring for the night. Lesson learned.

No collateral damage to note, but I will say I was very impressed by the border patrol when entering into Canada. Not sure if things were this way back in the 90's, but it is very difficult to take children into Canada if you are not their parents. Thank goodness we were well prepared with all the documentation now required (passports, letters from parents, medical concerns). The internet helped out a lot in putting together everything needed. As for the return trip, How long were you there? Do you have anything to declare? Okay have a nice day...

Those things Never loose very much value! I wanted a Tacoma but could never find one in decent shape that wasn't too expensive for me. I ended up buying my 08 Tundra used in 2012...and was offered $1,000 less than I bought it for by the dealership two months ago. I don't drive it much (only 51,000 miles) but other than a coolant line seal going out it has been problem free!

Well I can thank my wife for leading me in the right direction as I had been considering a used truck. But I just couldn't justify a vehicle with 90,000 miles on the odometer and a $28,000 price tag. Once I decided I would go with a Toyota I began looking at the different trim levels and was leaning toward the entry level SR or the SR5. But my wife being the bells and whistles gal she has always been convinced me to be patient, save my money and eventually I would be able to step up to the TRD Sport. I am still learning about all the bells and whistles packed into this truck, but man I am glad I heeded her advise. As the saying goes, behind every successful man is a surprised woman.
