Post Your "12-Month Personal Rate of Return"

Something kinda related and very interesting...

I kept hearing that the S&P500 grew by 12%, but noted that the AutoTracker documented the 'C Fund' growing by 15%. Hey, 3% is a big difference.

But it is a legit difference.

The 'C Fund' share prices did grow by a little over 15% and the S&P500 grew by a bit over 12%.

C Fund (15.06%):
2009/12/31 - 13.2177
2010/12/31 - 15.2084
S&P500 (12.78%):
2009/12/31 - 1,115.10
2010/12/31 - 1,257.64
And, the AutoTracker is dead on with the share price...
I can only guess that the difference is dividend reinvestment.

So, I beat the S&P500 :)
And, didn't make the grade on the 'C Fund' :embarrest:

Should I be happy or sad:confused:

Here's mine:

12-Month Personal Rate of Return: 6.08%

I started to be active on 10/27/2010, and scored 7.57% on the autotracker.

So... I've set the bar pretty low to beat my personal best in 2011.

Really, I just want to beat the market. Beat buy and hold. And, since I'm messing with a lot of money here, I would recommend looking up the misquoted, but humorous "Shepard's Prayer"

Best of luck and many happy returns!

My PRR is 17.6% I sure would have liked more, but I am happy with these kind of numbers.

Sentiment Survey is looking very enticing.

Good luck every one, and Happy New Year!

Thanks for all who make this site possible!

OBGibby,

It looks updated to me. My balance shows 12/31/2010.

I think that Blackstone automated TSP much more than Barclays. My guess is that the PIP is now updated the evening of the last day of the month. Or, better yet, it is completely data driven - but does not include the partial month you are currently in. The 6.96% I got on 2010/12/29 was probably accurate as of 2010/11/30. That might be good news for a freebie from Tom:). But, looking at the folks here, I think not:o.

Just checked again - PIP is still 13.31%, but my balance now reflects Dec 31 vice COB of Dec 30. (Maybe I logged in earlier during the website update process and only got half the update!) My PIP was updated from Nov (8%ish), so my numbers are final for the year.

To All,

Anything at or over the average annual return of the S&P500 is great. In fact, you will live well in retirement with an 8% return. Just watch for the declines. Lose a bit less there and you will be taste testing caviar rather than Alpo.

Whatever you do, don’t chase after trends and earnings.

Nice and easy with your retirement.

Then, live well.

:p

I agree, or maybe Intrepid's trading. I am watching both now.

I didn't know about this site (and the good advice) and was just guessing on my own. Made 9.94% for the past 12 months according to my TSP.gov account.

I just checked TSP, they updated for the close on 12-31-10.

12-Month Personal Rate of Return: 11.17%

Not bad for not really knowing what I was doing. I expect (hope) to do the same or better in 2011.

12 Month Personal Rate of Return 13.07 with a "set it and forget" attitude.
I'm going to start actively managing it as I could have a much higher return if I'd anticipated the downs. I'll be looking to the leaders to help identify these times.

Yowser...
On 12/29 my PIP was 6.96...

Now...
On 12/31 it is the expected 13.24%

I have no idea how they compute this. However, the 'Now' number basically matches my AutoTracker and is Dead On with Quicken's Internal Rate of Return. My guess is that the difference with the AutoTracker has to do with the fact that my contributions go into my TSP account at 40% C, 30% S, 30% I.

My my, in just a couple of days...

When the PIP first came out about 18 months ago it, when it was on the old TSP website, it was only updated once a month, within the first three business days of the new month. I still thought it only updated once a month; however, I'm scratching my head because they haven't updated the last trading day of the year yet, but they've already updated my December number from November's. Not sure...
