Pipeline break in Romeoville, IL today.

Affecting prices at the pump!
Heads Up Michiganders: Due to oil pipeline break today near Romeoville, IL, the spot price of gasoline at bulk terminals took a huge jump in Michigan today. Gas price at bulk terminals was up by .21 cents at one time today. Wiscon., Illinois, Ohio and Indiana may also be affected. Go fill up NOW, as pump price may jump overnight. THe jump should only be for a few days- but it's enough to be worth filling NOW

And yet another Pipeline ruptures killing 4...(so far)

San Bruno, California Neighborhood Rocked by Massive Gas Fire, Four Dead

"SAN FRANCISCO—An explosion of an underground natural gas line in San Bruno, California Thursday evening resulted in a raging inferno which engulfed dozens of homes and claimed four lives. At least 50 people have been hospitalized, with three of them in critical condition after suffering severe burns over most of their bodies.

The epicenter of the explosion is less than three miles away from the San Francisco International Airport prompting some area residents to mistakenly believe that an airplane had crashed nearby. The Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E), which operates the network of gas lines supplying the area, confirmed on their website that a 30-inch steel gas transmission pipeline had been damaged during the blast. Gas and electric service had been cut off to the area afterwards as a precaution to allow first responders to safely battle the fire..."

Wow. I'm confused as usual. Buster posts about a natural as pipeline explosion in California and provides a link.

Jim jumps in with this
Oh man- it's a MAJOR pipeline that sprung a leak today. Check it out:

and the link takes you to a story about prices rising and no specifics about the disaster.

Then Jim posts

It is so bad to not be intellectual enough to understand all this

PessOptimist, it may help to go back and read the posts in the order in which they were actually posted.

James opened the thread to tell us about a leak in a pipeline that usually carries bulk oil to the upper midwest, and kindly lets those of us who live there know that it could cause jumps in the price of gasoline at the pump.

Then Buster lets us know about the leak and subsequent explosion caused by the utility pipeline that carried natural gas to neighborhoods in San Bruno, CA.

Easy-peasy. :D

PessOptimist- you must have your settings for display reversed. In order of posting, Steel Magnolia is right- my post saying Pipeline break, heads up.

then my post saying "Major- sprung a leaK".

the highlighted paragraphs in that hotlink were these two "
" Enbridge Inc (ENB.TO) closed its 670,000-barrel-per-day Line 6A, the largest of the company's major three pipelines, after a leak was discovered near Romeoville, Illinois. [ID:nN10253512] Enbridge said on Friday the pipeline remained shut as the cleanup of the oil leak continued. It also acknowledged that it expected "significant impact" on oil producers and refiners from the shutdown. [ID:nWEN9615]"

That means a significant shutdown of a major supply pipeline
to refiners in the midwest. The pipeline is the major pipeline that brings
oil from tar-sands down from Canada, to refiners around Chicago area.

The possibility now exists that Chicago/Indiana refiners will lose
26 MILLION gallons of oil supply each day, until the break is fixed.

If the pipeline is fixed quickly, no big deal. But if it takes more than a few days,
there will be a MAJOR shortage of gasoline throughout the middle of the country
everywhere from Minneapolis to Chicago to perhaps Cleveland.

A MAJOR shortage.

That's why it's important to fill up and stand by for a major shortage,
hit on prices, and watch out for possible economic damage.
