SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures edged lower Tuesday afternoon, ahead of the expiration of the April contract at the session's close, as traders showed signs of uncertainty about the outlook for energy demand and looked ahead to this week's U.S. update on petroleum supplies.

Gasoline concern pushes oil toward $60

Investors expect supplies to drop further ahead of summer driving season.

March 21 2007: 6:33 AM EDT

LONDON (Reuters) -- Oil climbed towards $60 a barrel Wednesday as investors expected U.S. gasoline supplies to decline further in the run-up to the summer driving season.
U.S. crude was up 31 cents at $59.56 a barrel in electronic trading, while London's Brent was up 26 cents at $60.46 a barrel.
Crude slid to a six-week low at the end of last week and prices are still under pressure from lingering concern about the strength of the economies of the world's two biggest oil consumers, the United States and China.

Oil tops $60 as U.S. supply falls

Refinery problems, early maintenance, strong demand combine to prop up oil price.

March 22 2007: 7:33 AM EDT

LONDON (Reuters) -- Oil rose above $60 a barrel Thursday after a sharp drop in gasoline stocks fueled concerns of tight supplies ahead of the summer driving season in the world's biggest consumer.
The price of U.S. oil has recovered from a 20-month low of $49.90 hit in January, partly because of OPEC supply cuts, but remains well below a record $78.40 reached last July. It was trading up $1 at $60.61 a barrel in premarket trade.

Crude spikes up as UK sailors taken prisoner by Iran

by Ciara Linnane, MarketWatch
Last Update: 8:40 AM ET Mar 23, 2007

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Crude-oil futures reversed early losses to trade higher Friday after the British government said that 15 naval personnel have been captured at gunpoint by Iranian forces while patrolling off the coast of Iraq.
The U.K. boarding party had completed a successful inspection of a merchant ship when they and their two boats were surrounded and escorted by Iranian vessels into Iranian territorial waters, the British government said. The Iranian ambassador has been summoned to the Foreign Office, it added.

Oh great, the Iranian government is now taking British hostages. This will elevate things. I'm sure the UN will ignore these actions as usual.

The market, the Market! They can make a big deal of it or disregard it, I don't know, but from what I've seen in the past it would be good to be careful. Oil is on the rise!
