While we're at it, what do I do with my old fiberglass shower?

It's looking a bit old, I'm moving & selling my house and not sure what to do with it. Problem is the bathroom's opening is not big enough to fit a new 1-piece in there...

If it only needs about 3" to make it through the door try taking out the door frame up to the studs. I had the same problem but on installing the new shower we had to take out the door frame and one 2x4 stud and sheetrock, it worked not fun though. I don't know if they make 2 piece units?

JTH,

You could turn it into a French toilet.

Sure that's easy just dig a 10" wide 3' long ditch under the chair and forget about the bucket. I leave the Chair there cause I never could learn how to do it without the chair, Fell down one time in Japan what a mess!! toilet4.gif

I did not have a problem taking my 2 piece in, it was getting the 1 piece cast iron tub out. Took a sledge hammer to it. Lots of work.

Yes, I figured I may have to remove the door frame. I'm still not sure, beacuse my bathroom opening is smaller than your typical opening. You know I remodeled my other bathroom last year.

I replaced everything including the Bathtub, NOT FUN!!!! :notrust:

Lucky you, you must be stonger, I couldn't break mine apart for ____ all I got was dents and a rough case of tennis elbow. :p

Wall paper is off, had to skim the walls with joint compound and I'm finished sanding. Now have to clean up the DUST, it's about 1/8" deep everywhere, then prime and paint!! After that I start doing the Vanity tops, there are two, gonna tile them, replace the sinks and faucets. Then refinish the vanities, put up the new light fixtures, there are four, and the new mirrors. BOOGA BOOGA!! :o

Lots of luck with the dust! Its already in the ventilation systems and will keep covering the house for months and months. One tip our HVAC guy gave us is to buy a bunch of cheap filters and replace them every day or two for 2 -3 weeks. Seemed to help some but still was the gift that kept on giving for awhile. Hope yours isn't as bad as ours was.

God bless a shop vac placed outside with a long hose... The filters thing is a good idea, I'll have to try that myself.

1920's model. Did I forget to mention there was a granite saw involved?
I'm spoiled, if there is a tool on the market I want (Not neccessarily need) my wife gets it for me. You can never have enough tools.

I wish I had a window in that bathroom, but no luck. I put a wet towel over the exhaust (a thin one) it helped some!! Just finished with the dust cleanup, ON TO THE PAINTING, PRIMER is first!! View attachment 7965

I had to cut my old fiberglass shower into pieces with a saw-zaw to get it out the dor and then tiled a new shower in. It was lots of work building a new floor pan and all the tile but it was worth it.

Wow, I'm not sure how many man hours that would take? I've done some tile work in the past, what a messy job it was. How did you build a floor pan?

Well it's off to Home Depot to buy some more tile for the vanities. Still on the Lilly Pad depending on what the Markets do today? Wonder if the Markets will Pop is Scott Brown wins in MA?? :)

It took me about a week for the whole job, but that was including tiling the bathroom floor, shower and new vanity. I just did some research on the internet to build the shower pan and basically it's putting in a new drain, pre-slope with mortar, Rubber membrane, Dry pack with mortar and slopeing it 1/4" per foot to the drain, cement backing board for the walls and then tiling. It was a lot of work but I saved a couple grand by doing it my self.

Just got back, I've never done a shower, but I've done my whole house including the front and back porches and the vanity in one bath, now I'm doing the 2 vanities in the Master Bath. Carpet is NASTY!!

How about that Pop this morning?
Nonetheless, this morning's gains have been broad, but health care is currently out in front of the move. The sector is up 1.6% amid speculation that a Republican election to the vacant Massachussets Senate seat could stall or stymie health care reform. Managed care providers have benefitted most from that argument -- the group is up 4.4% at the moment. [more]
