Congrats distant cousin!
About 2 years, 10 months and 7 days for me.
I need to start reading and asking more questions here as the plan starts to unfold! So far, we are planning on minimalistic living, from an “ex” single persons prospective  Driving the new wife nutts with all the variations of the plan each night.

Pay off whatever you can before retirement!!
Need info just ask.
I planned this thing for 10 years, had it figured out long ago call it crazy but that's just me.
Best of luck Cuz!!:D

My wife has had me in preliminary house husband training for several years - I've recently graduated into doing all the coupon clipping and grocery shopping. I'm real good at vacuming and I always remember to replace the garbage liner - now that's progress. As a matter of fact I just finished putting all the groceries away in their proper place very neatly.

Getting close to that 80% retirement! Hang in there it will be here before you know it>:D

May 2012, 411/2 government service (31/2 USAF and 37 NASA)

Congrats NASA.....hopefully you have a couple of years of Sick Leave to add also!:)
5 months left for full retirement? I was thinking the 80% on CSRS kicked in at 41yr 11months.

You're correct. I added wrong I will have 38 years with NASA. I should have over 6 months of sick time to put me over 42 years total.

That's good advice, nnuut! Not owing anybody nothing makes a big difference in how much you really need to retire comfortably. I don't need the income I used to make before I retired, debt-free. Of course, I don't have a big family to support either. That would change the situation alot! But, there won't be any "new wives" around here for me! And you can take that to the bank!!! haha!

Question retirees:

What percentage of your pre-retirement income did you plan to live off of and are you still holding to that level?

For Example: You thought you would need 70% of pre-retirement income, but you really only use 63%.

Would love to hear how that turned out for you!

Yep, preplanning is the key. It looks like you have it under control.:D

My total taxable income is now about 1/2 of what I was earning before I retired in January, 2008. But, when I retired I sold the house I had lived in for over 35 years and moved to the place I bought in the country six months later. It's half the house I sold, but I've still got plenty of room. It's only 10 years old, and I paid cash for the house and 10 acres, and ten minutes from the Tennessee River, my favorite fishing hole. Another plus side is that I moved from one of the worst "Metro-type" counties in Tennesse (Davidson/Nashville) where the traffic is a nightmare, to one of the lowest taxed counties in the state, (Perry County). That factor alone made a huge difference in living costs for me, especially on property taxes. I retired from the USPS with a total of 24 years service and age 60, counting my 3 years of military service. I also receive a small pension from DuPont Chemicals for the 13 years I worked there before I was laid off due to down-sizing the company in 1985. (only $264/mo but every little bit helps) I receive a regular monthly draw from my TSP account of $400, but the TSP account balance is still more than it was when I retired. I started receiving a regular social security check in January of this year, since I became 62 last November. From the beginning of my retirement at age 60 until I became 62, I was receiving the FERS supplemental income of about $650/mo. That stopped when I became eligible for regular social security. That is basically covers my situation, but again, I've been single since 1997 and I am debt fee. I haven't noticed any change in my standard of living since I retired, even though I'm only making about half of my previous working income. Life is Good! :)

Thanks Budnipper!

Good job and smart moves.... You've done well!

So, being single, you can afford all those expensive dates now?:toung:

haha....Yeah, I could afford it but I mostly stay on the down-low now! You gotta watch most of the women around here...for some reason, I sense some "ulterior" motives! I guess my previous marriage of 26 years left me with some trust issues. :suspicious: hehee!

That's alright, just implement the "pay-as-you-go" program and that way you can set the rules!
