When I retire in 4 years, I'll look into it. Want at least 4 different residences, one for each season.................;)

Houses in Italy are fairly cheap also, as long as you don't your heart set on one of those old renovated stone houses, they get expensive..........

Hi ! I've been reading you folks for just over a week - then it took a couple of days for Tom to get my `name' straightened out...I have sent him a Christmas bonus for his quick interventions -. The RealEstate questions are pertinent to me: the renter in the other half of the duplex pays virtually all the mortgage, but, for some reason I have felt I needed to pay that off (fixed rate) instead of maxing on my TSP. I have moved it up to 12%. I put between 1000 and 1800$ on the mortgage principal each month. I still have a few days to change, I am wondering if I am looking at this wrong. You must understand I have been conservative to the `panic stage.' have only 62,000 after 10 years w/the Gov'mnt and $300 of that is since I accidently somehow came across this webpage. Also, being 71 yo adds a bit of flavor too. Which of course means I could probably do the catch up, and forgetpaying extraon the $28,000 I have left in the mortgage. :? You guys/gals have presented varied opinions on all the subjects in this TSPtalk, I believe I have read most everyone of them - I value each of you....... Thank you for sharing w/all comers!!

Grandma

I tried a retirement a while back and found that I lacked a lot of basic information on properties, investments, returns, the IRS, and just about everything. So we went to see our accountant. The accountant set up abasic strategy, or financial considerations we should keep in mind. Taking control of the TSP account led me to this site. However, my case senero first started with a visit to my accountant.

Other members I hope will posts and add their advice or comments likewise.

Rgds, and have a good day :) Spaf

It is currently 80 degree here and I am getting ready to go to the beach for a BBQ. We have a local holiday tomorrow so no work for me.... Yippeeeee!:dude:

"...equity is really useless unless you plan to leverage [it]..."

Very true. Making a bunch of money on paper doesn't do a thing to stop the bleeding.I figure I will have to sellit and thenbuy someplace else, someplace less prone to destructive tropical storms, heh.

Here's a question for you: is it true that in order to continue my govt health and life insurance policies, I have to take out an annuity from the TSP?I think I read that somewhere. My thought is, if that is the case then I will take out the minimum annuity necessary to do so andstill have a bunch left to put in the IRA. Sound good?

Dave
