MrJohnRoss' Account Talk

Sold off perhaps 40% of my stock portfolios this morning. I held plenty of Chinese stocks, which have been trending down, and many high flyers I track are curling over to the downside. That being said, I did pick up some Rexahn Pharmaceuticals (RNN) at $1.19.

Not sure we have much gas left in the tank. No sell signal for the S Fund yet, but we're getting closer...

Looks like NUGT is losing momentum to the upside here. We're right on the edge of a switch to DUST. If you'r long NUGT, you may want to consider liquidating.

Sold all my aapl just a little bit ago. Nice return for me. I wont touch this one until under $500 I'd like to own it but not for the right reasons.

Good job rktect. My concern with AAPL is the open gap on Feb 7 near 512.50. It may get filled down to that level.

Anyone else feeling like we're at a top? Way too many stocks curling over. I feel like "the tides they are a changing" (ala Bob Dylan).

Whatsamatter BT, you constipated? We need some fertilizer, and make it pronto, or we're all going down! Help a brother out!

(snort).

Right shoulder being formed on the Dow and Transports? Quite possibly.

System sold NUGT at 50.20. With a buy at 51.73, that's a loss of -3.0%. System buys DUST at 19.88.

System stays long URTY, up fractionally, +0.09%.

I'd like to stay long for the next few days and make it into March fully invested, but that may not happen. If the market curls over, I'll be jumping ship.

Wish us luck!

I'm still thinking long. There will be a correction sometime in the future. When? I don’t know. But long term it is just a bump on the charts. I have 8 years before I can draw out of my retirement accounts without a penalty. I’m not planning on touching them for another 15 years.

GDXJ is finally getting it's long overdue pullback! Yay! I'll be ready to scoop up some shares at the bottom. Everyone loves a sale! :)

Where is the bottom?

Depends on your tolerance for how long you want to hold. You can make minute by minute trades, hourly trades, daily trades, or long term trades. Every person has their own comfort level, and their commitment to watch the indicators. If you're wanting a long term (1 yr or longer) position, go ahead and jump in now. I think the odds are very good that prices will be higher next year than they are now.

For me, I'll be looking for a holding period of anywhere from 1 day to possibly 2-3 weeks, depending on price action. So for me, I'll sit back and wait for a confirmation of a new uptrend before squeezing the trigger. I look at various time frames to determine my buy point.

Good luck!

I'm thinking long too. That is, until it's time to go short. I will not be afraid to bet heavily on the downside. All in due time. The tides roll in, and the tides roll out.

Please post your move when you make it.

Perhaps I should have traded JNUG. An entry at 31 might have been a good buy point. Higher price swings, although it could backfire on you if something goes wrong.

Interesting that the daily GDXJ is showing a sell, while the 30 minute just gave a buy. That's why it's so difficult to say when is the best time to buy or sell. Makes it easier if they're both in synch, which they aren't. We're seeing a counter-trend rally here.

Have you ever heard of StockTwits® - Share Ideas & Learn from Passionate Investors & Traders ? When I'm interested in a stock I like to go on there and see what others are saying about it and some show their charts, etc. It is nice to have others opinions in case they see something you didn't see, etc. http://www.tradingview.com/ is another great place for opinions and their charting software is phenomenal.

I go there, though sometimes getting too many opinions can get advice going in every direction :P

One guy I follow is probably the best charter i've seen, usually nails his calls FR (CluELess8) on StockTwits

Yes, I've heard of stocktwits, but just haven't had the time to dive into it much yet. I'll have to check out tradingview as well. Thanks for the tips!

You might want to check out Investors Business Daily newspaper. I think you can go on-line and get a free two week trial. Check it out, they have a ton of good info in there.

Just squeezed the trigger. Bought GDXJ at $41.10. This is a short term play. I'm currently trading the 30-minute chart.

This GDXJ trade went nowhere today. Pulled the plug at the close at $41.15, which basically paid the round trip. Didn't have the guts to see what happens at the open tomorrow. Actually, the daily chart still looks weak, and the 30 minute flattened out, so my guess is we still have more downside to go.

Another back and forth day for the markets, and we end up almost where we started. SPX laid a goose egg, and $EMW was up 42 ticks. EFA was down 39 ticks.

System continues to hold DUST, up +3.38% today. Metals got hammered hard. They were due.

System continues to hold URTY, up another +1.76%. I know this won't last forever, but man, we've sure had a nice run here. Buy signal at 76.88, closing price today of 91.86. That's a gain of +19.5% in 12 trading days. Wish I could do this well all the time.
