Momacs Account Talk

Hello everyone,
I'm am so happy to have found you all. Someone said something about TSPTalk on the FederalSoup message board. I just wish I would of found you before the stock market crashed.
I'm actually not a federal employee, my husband is. Since I'm the one that takes care of it and has made all the blunders in the TSP account over the years, I hope it's ok.
Luckily I didn't have all of the money in the equity funds so the losses for 2008 weren't as bad as they could of been. It'll be interesting to get the closing TSP sheet for 2008 to find out what it actually was.
His allocation for the beginning of 2009
L2040 - 2
L2030 - 2
L2020 - 2
L2010 - 2
G - 83
F - 0
C - 2
S - 5
I - 2
I've been doing the <1 or >1 experiment the last couple of weeks. Started out with 1% in each of the funds. I guess I should of paid better attention though cause I found out today that the first 2 moves to whole numbers count as one of your 2 IFT's for the month so the one I did today moving them all up to whole numbers again has left me with just one IFT for this month.
I'm hoping the market goes up at least through the 20th and then I'm afraid it's going lower again. So the plan is to stay in until then. At least I've found a place to hear others opinions and that helps so much.
Thanks

Good Luck Momacs,

You have come to the right place to learn about Hubby's TSP account.
Read Read Read, Ohh and ask questions.

Nope. Your first 2 moves are your 2 moves...period. After that you can move slowly back to G and/or <1% moves up or down for the rest of the month. And If you go ALL G then you have NO moves till the beginning of the next month.

I too found TSPtalk at FederalSoup...and I sure am glad I did.

Welcome and good luck!

Welcome to the Message Board Momacs. Yes, we are here to make MORE MONEY, sometimes it's really hard to do, but this is the place that is trying to do better and not settle for riding these crashes to the bottom, but take advantage of them. Buy LOW Sell HIGH!!:D

Hi Momacs! Welcome to our little world. It's a pretty cool place. So much to learn, so many to learn from. It just gets better and better with time. Funny, I found FedSoup AFTER I found this place. There is value to be had over there too, I go peek every now and then to see what's been going on. As for here, as Poolman said, read read read, ask, ask, ask, we all learn from each other.:)

UP UP UP for the stocks!!! Yeah! How long can it last???? :toung:

Well darn, I thought I was special with me taking care of the money. :)

Today I did my 2nd IFT of the month. It's 70 G 15 C and 15 S. I think with the problems with the tracker, I got deleted somehow because all of my previous %'s showed up as 0 when I changed it today. I don't know if that is fixable or not????
I want to warn everyone, usually whenever I move the money in, stocks drop like a rock. And whenever I go to G, stocks go up. :cheesy:
But the % hasn't really changed too much since before with me being in the L funds, some of that was in G anyway.

I read some threads where people are refinancing their homes. I just got a call from the local bank today. 4.5% on 15 year and 4.75 on 30 year loans.
My current rate is 6.125% We've been paying down the current mortgage fast. Started in 05 with a 30 year and owe maybe 18 yet with all the extra payments we've made.
I want to do the 30 year just for emergencies. It'd knock quite a bit a off the current payment. But we'd continue to pay our current payment. But, if something awful happens, that lower payment might come in handy.

What the heck happened to the Obama bounce???? This is freaking me out. I should just go to the casino instead of trying to make back all that was lost last year. Yikes!!!!

Welcome to the TSPtalkshow,
We are all glad to welcome the new and old
"What the heck happened to the Obama bounce???? This is freaking me out. I should just go to the casino instead of trying to make back all that was lost last year."
The Obama bounced into the waiting ARMs (Adjustable Rate Mortgages) of his higher power in the heavens above and will be for the next while.

I want to warn everyone, usually whenever I move the money in, stocks drop like a rock. And whenever I go to G, stocks go up.
Don't tell me, let me guess, one of those M's stand for Murphy (Murphey's Law:cheesy:).
You can get some really good financial advice if you read the threads. I'm really busy at work and don't have much time, so I just follow the moves posted on the Leaderboard Post moves, then I pray hard, then I get back to the daily grind.
Good Luck,

Well, since alot of people are thinking that it's going to bounce, I didn't pull everything back to G and I actually did the >back up to 15% in both the C and S funds. So I'm still waiting for the elusive Obama bounce in this casino that we call the stock market!
Yep, that's me momacsMurphy. :-) Or should it be Murphymomacs???
I have been reading the back threads, very interesting stuff, especially when you start getting up to the threads of last fall. Oh and the ones from before they put the IFT limits are really good too.
We should all start a movement to repeal the 2 IFT moves a month. This is really hurting alot of people. My husband has been off work since Aug on LWOP so I don't know how many of his co-workers are upset about this. At your places of work, are people waking up and realizing yet how bad the new rules are?

The problem is there aren't enough of us who care about managing OUR money. Mr. Long made us out to be a bunch rebels costing everyone else money, so the typical uneducated sheeple turned a blind eye to our plight.

It still amazes me how many folks out there think the 2 IFT system is fair. :suspicious:

Will the people who are in charge of the Tsp all be replaced when Obama takes office???? If they are, it might be possible to get this overturned??? Especially with all that's been going on in the stock market lately and all of the losses that have been locked in because of the new rule.

Have you tried to nudge them along?

Also - I've found that TSP is can be a sore topic at work as some really had their shorts handed to them last year. It's not the end of the world.

Most don't care to learn. All they're interested in is sports.

Change we can hope for... :D

Hi momacs! I think we got past most of the problems with starting the new year in the autotracker. Let me know if your account is still having any problems (I can't fix a falling market however :)).

Thanks!!
