Anyone know what the minimum amount of years of creditable service is for freezing your retirement? I am a PTF city carrier and will have 9 years on November 7th. I was going to continue working until I had 10 years in, but now I think I may leave USPS next spring. However, my postmaster said that she thought the minimum was 10 years for freezing retirement.

I know I'll get deferred annuity when I'm 62 for the 9 years I've worked, but that's different than freezing your retirement, isn't it?

I applaud you for asking such important questions. And you will get excellent input from us here on the board. However, this subject deserves a more serious and thoughtful approach. Along with reviewing the material at OPM, you should consult with a retirement advisor familiar with your situation.

Typically, once you are out, it is too late to repair what might have been easily avoided.

Best of luck and blessings! :)
