Trees down everywhere. One fell across my driveway but it was gone when I came back. My neighbors cut it up...bless their hearts. The only damage to the house was when my ex and neighbor decided to cut down a damaged tree and they clipped the corner of the roof. :banghead::alcoholic:

MC,

IMHO, JP's experience is not surprising...here in "Lower Alabama", people are just WAY different than those in MD and PA...not that people up there are "bad", but it's just "different" ! As long as you don't talk down to the "locals", like a damn Yankee, ( :D ) they'll give you the shirt off their back !

People here actually make eye contact in the grocery store line, or at the gas station, and chat about stuff, with total strangers ! That took some getting used to, for me and the Wife...in this part of Florida, be prepared to get an "invite" to their church !

True story : One of the Construction Inspectors I worked with once told me : "When we meet with the Contractor, you need to talk slower...you talk too fast ! Also, first ask them about their Family, and Kids, and how 'Bama is doing this year, BEFORE jumping in to discussions about the project !" That was enlightening on 2 levels...one, that he shared with me his observations on my "style", and two...that he was spot-on !!! My job got much easier once I followed his advice !!!

Anyway...FL is an interesting place...you can find whatever environment you want, and are comfortable with, here...heck...you could buy a duded-up golf cart and move to "The Villages" if you want !

But Alabama taxes pension income to a certain degree?

Nnuut, but the Empire State of the South will tax my pension income until I am 62-65.
Florida, Nevada and Washington sound good for retirees.

This year the first $37,000 [for a pension or annuity] you earn are not Georgia state taxable, I think next year they are doing away with State income tax, we will see. I had $840 taken out for 2014 and got it all back as a refund.

Getting ready for the Pope...in September!

:lmao::lmao:

I don't get why people dress up their animals, the animals never look happy, but that is a cute picture of "his holiness" ... I betcha Pope Francis would take a selfie with his mini me. Very cute.

My supervisor at work must have 500 outfits for her little chihuahua. She is always taking pictures on her phone and shows them to us like a proud momma. I crack up, but it drives this one guy crazy at work. He goes bonkers when she shows him her dog's new outfits and then he threatens to go home sick. lol!

Hey! I just thought of something....is that a prerequisite to get in management ?! Hmmmm....:D I must have missed that page on the 991.

Read through that article and I'm currently in Pennsylvania, looking to move to South Carolina/Georgia in a few years with my wife to continue our careers there. Nice seeing Columbia, SC on that.

You are so right, I guess dressing up the "four-legged family members" is more of a torture for them.
i wish I could afford an attire for my baby everyday of the year, unfortunately, he is butt naked 90% of the time.
now, I know how I can torture you, I'll send you a pic of my baby in costume everyday...LOL
If you missed the fine print of the 991, you are already disqualified.

MC,

Don't know ! The term "Lower Alabama" is just an expression you see/hear around here. I actually DO live in Florida, but AL is close, both to the north and to the west....

I live outside of Columbia near Lake Murray in Lexington, SC. Don't move to Lexington County. Utilities like water and sewer are outrageous, as well as car taxes. If I have to water my lawn in the summer it is not uncommon to get a $300-$350 water/sewer bill for one month. And watering usually lasts from April through October, if it doesn't rain. Annual property taxes on a $40,000 vehicle for the first year are around $2500. It decreases every year thereafter but still high as a kite. Boats, motorcycles etc. are considered luxury items and property taxes are even higher than cars. House property taxes aren't real bad though, unless your home here is a second home - then the taxes are 5X normal. And if you live directly on the lake, which will cost you $500,000 up to several million, the property taxes are double. I would look in Richland County if you are serious about moving to Columbia, SC.
