Kave's Account Talk

As someone who dabbled with a little bit of woodshop longtime ago, glad I understand the language. The visuals are excellent. Very nice, Kave.

Did you know they use propylene glycol in the liquid? PG is an ingredient in anti freeze. Not sure how healthy that is.

Propylene glycol - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Propylene glycol is considered generally recognized as safe (GRAS) by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and it is used as an humectant (E1520), solvent, and preservative in food and for tobacco products

if you have ever smoked a pack and a half of cigarettes a day for 30 years, then you would know that eliquid is a far safer delivery method for nicotine than tobacco. health food? nobody is selling health food here. if you want organic eliquid they also make it out of vg (vegetable glycol). you can go down to the local whole foods store and sniff hairy hippie chicks wearing homemade skirts and patchoulie if you want health food.

fair warning, they will cost you more than cigarettes ever will. quit peeing in my wheaties.

Burro, I have one question before I start working on your "vaping station". In the picture of the drawer and yardstick, you'll see the drawer is approx 3-1/8" deep. Is that deep enough or should it be deeper?

Thanks,
Kave

it needs to be 3-3/4 to 4-1/2 to stand them up. but i plan on laying them down anyways.

to each their own.

it's all good hollywood.

and you can call me burro.

nnuut, Thank you! No forstner bit used I don't have a drill press. I only used plunge router and cleaned out the center of each 1-1/2" & 1-1/4" recess with a 1/4" straight cut router bit.
Where there's a will there's a way, good work.

Hey Burrocrat,

I've been able to spend a couple nights this week in the Cave (my shop). Tomorrow is my nonworkday. If all goes as planned I will be close to completion on your project. I'll post pictures here probably late tomorrow. Stay tuned my brother!!!

cool, you sure are an industrious devil. no hurry, whatever suits your schedule. i'm excited to see how the barn wood turns out. i am starting to get the hang of this vaping and rotate tanks/atomizers system down so that i don't even miss real smokes now. this is going to be a cool place to keep it all organized instead of my cardboard boxes.

have you given any more thought to compensation? at minimum what do you place the value of materials and your time at? you can pm that if it makes you more comfortable. i don't want to cheat you out of fair due.

no drill press so the holes and tray are basically freehand with a router? that's some fine accurate work there my friend.

I play around with wood now and then...But for a quick put together, that is some fine work..

RE: JPC's little commentary about Antifreeze and water...Bad analogy my dear..Water is fine by itself, but when you mix it with ethylene glycol, it is POISON. So yes it is bad in that state..very bad..Like table salt is safe as sodium chloride..But sodium and chloride by themselves are super toxic...Propylene Glycol is not ethylene glycol(antifreeze)..Glycol is the suspension agent and is virtually harmless..So puff away.

Obviously I'm talking about water by itself. The comment I replied to inferred that PG might be bad because it was used in anti-freeze. I implied that water is not bad simply because it is used in anti-freeze. Any normal person can infer that water mixed with anything toxic is bad

Burrocrat,

Here are a few pics of your piece. Bear in in mind, I've been at a party drinking Kold Beerz, while it dried. I took these pictures after returning home. As we discussed, you decide what you think it's worth and let me know. Please PM me your thoughts and we can go from there. This is a one of a kind peice. We can come to terms as I'm sure! I've got approx 10 hours in it. I will say your piece is bitchin!

This turned out better than I could have imagined I hope you like it!!

Thanks and pm me please about a price.

bitchin' is right!

i don't even know what to offer. don't sell it to anybody else until i can come up with something, ok?

suh frickin weet!

i like the knots and the scars and the time that shows on the outside surfaces contrast the new uncovered routed tray and holes. wow wow wow!

Here's one more picture. FYI, I've been Kold Beer & Fire Ballin!

what is the border/slats of wood thing around the bottom for?

you haven't sold it yet have you?

i'm working on scraping together some spare change. i can only do so many tricks in one day and i'm getting older now so it don't pay as good as it used to.

I cut a 1/4" deep x 1/4" wide recess in the bottom of the box sides. In the wood working world it's called a "rabbit" . This rabbit receives the bottom, which is a 1/4" piece of plywood w/o the edge of the bottom being seen. This is a detail that gives any piece a more finished "furniture" look. I didn't do a rabbit in the prototype. If you go back and look at the prototype picture, you'll see the edge of the bottom piece of 1/4" plywood as it's exposed.

And no, I haven't sold it yet. I told you "it's yours"

ok everybody, kave and i worked out price and payment and delivery timing details. so quit drooling over my vaping station, it's off the market.

but i bet the prototype is still around. and given the level of craft put into this one i don't think you'd be dissapointed with anything he builds. i don't know if he's open for business, but you could ask.

i'm so excited i can't wait to get mine!

that is some fine work. no exposed edges on the bottom and the corners of the box are mitered too. slick. the layout of the top work surface is accurately cut and perfect for my needs. that is a lot of cutting and routing with no apparent mistakes.

how did you manage to make those cuts through nail holes and knots, that could not have been easy? i like the big knot on the right side, it's my favorite part of the whole piece. how do you make the cuts so that the drawer face is from the same board as the front and the grain matches?

i hope you built jigs and templates because there might be quite the demand for things like this in the future. that is a man's piece of furniture. extreme level of craft and care went into it obviously. very nice, thanks.

ps. get your birthday and xmas orders in early, kave might end up being pretty busy.

Thanks Burrocrat, it's not perfect. But I am very pleased with how it turned out. As for your questions regarding building techniques, a chef never gives away the recipe!!:D

vape station top without box/drawer

I'm posting these two pictures for the individual I'm corresponding with through pm. For some reason, I can not post pictures from a computer in a pm. I'm posting here on my account talk thread using my cell
