For specific things like RSI you should check out http://www.investopedia.com/

Thanks Kevin. I've been to investopedia and wikipedia trying to find info on the RSI and it was so basic that it didn't really help me at all. Then I went to your link and just typed RSI and a very nice read came up.

Sometimes I come up empty handed and sometimes it's a treasure trove.
Thanks for forcing me to take a second look. :D

I don't know enough about the merits of buy-and hold for TSP. Perhaps it's not the best candidate due to the way it's set up and the limits on IFTs, allocations, etc. I have not been dealing with TSP long enough to make that assessment for myself. However, if we are speaking of the stock market (i.e. individual shares, etc) I can think of no easier and safer way to make money than through buy-and-hold.

For those that don't understand the logic behind buy-and hold I offer the following links.

For those that want to turn a deaf ear without fully comprehending it, you have that right.

For those that understand it but don't agree with it or don't like it. You also have that right.

If you have to disagree, please agree to disagree without the nasty discourse.;)

The goal of any dollar cost averaging program should be oriented toward accumulation of shares over a period of time. Here's an example. My daughter opened a Roth 401K with her new employer and we picked three mutual funds to accumulate. Our choice included all large cap type funds. One of those is the Eaton Vance Large Cap Value fund. She makes a purchase bi-weekly. Her first purchase was at $16.64 a year ago and the fund is now selling for $18.80 - that's not good because she doesn't have that many shares yet, but it's out of her control. So DCA can be fate based and money will be made over time. Her other two funds have also increased in value - so she'll have to settle for fewer share purchases until her next raise when she may voluntarily increase her contributions. If she were to eventually retire with this company all her withdrawals will be tax free in retirement.

You are reminding me of an experience I once had in my late forties. I was vacationing with my wife down in quiet Cedar Key, Fla. when I noticed a very fine boat parked nearby where we were staying. When looking at the boat I noticed the name on it: Insatiable. The guys wife was standing next to the boat and when we looked at each other she gave me a great big smile - no words were needed. We both understood. It comes with age.

I understand why that memory came to mind. :D That is usually the concensus. However, there is more to it than meets the eye. My father was a very controling and intimidating man. His memory has been etched in my mind forever. I feel at ease around younger men. Not young men, just men younger than me. There is a difference.;)

The lows of the "I" trumps any gains in the "S" when you're in 50/50
I supposed it would have been worse if I had an IFT because I would have thrown it into "I". Just waiting and that dollar devaluation.

There must have been a time in the distant past when it was tough for BT to keep his sticky pants on. I had the same problem when I was young.

I say "had" the same problem, the wife on the other hand has a completly different opinion.

JPCavin,

My guess is that your holdings in the 'I Fund' will do you good. When the media realizes that there isn't any real excitement with regards to Japan's nuclear power plants there should be a giant relief rally.

And, the 'I' hasn't boomed like the 'S' and 'C'
