I do something similar (FOR ETFs) but I also look for when the equity price crosses these short MAs as an early indicator. Whether or not this I consider this a "buy" or "sell" depends on other factors, namely if we're in a bullish or bearish pattern and sentiment. Remember that the EMA is more sensitive to recent prices than the SMA. You can play with those a bit to see what kind of different scenarios can be generated.

The thing to remember is that if you wait for MA crosses you will ALMOST ALWAYS miss tops and bottoms because they are going to lag the price action by a few days. Especially in a volatile market. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to consider.

Mapper,

Why don't you post your signal in your signature. I am sure others are interested.

Why don't you post your daily signal in your signature, then I won't have to do that work - no use in doing it twice. I'm sure I'm not the only one interested.
My system is not that refined. It basically tells me when to get the hell out of dodge, and as you can see I did not follow the warning signs. I really need to figure out how to use slow stochastics with it...

Yeah but if it can tell me when to get the hell out of dodge, it's valuable.

My system is also not that refined. It's actually not a system, there is no way I could back test it.

Because of those "multiple other factors" also alluded to in my current signature. It's not so much a signal or system it's just part of the way I make decisions about how to position myself. Depending on market conditions and sentiment etc. I make dramatic changes to how much weight I give each factor. For example the MA crosses I look at happened more than once on the up move in 2012. Not once did act on that alone.

I do post my long/short purchases and my TSP holdings so you can see which way I'm leaning. Maybe sometime soon I'll change my obscenely verbose signature to reflect my current holdings.

Currently long TSP 45C 45S 10I. IRAs roughly 50% long.

I was thinking of getting some shares of KBE. Would like to hear everyone's opinion whether you belief it's a good or bad idea and why.

For KBE wait till 22.5 and perhaps 21.5 depending on the depth of the current correction. KBE getting below 50 sma today and that is bearish. MY 02

Thanks Uptrend! I wanted it a 21.07 but I tend to get impatient when it comes to waiting. Nice to see what others would buy at to keep me grounded.:D

Looking at a bank ETF is my kind of courage - however you could probably make more money witrh a stock like STR (Questar) - a midwest pipeline. And yes I own lots of it.

Yes, but only because I did not get out on 4 April like I should have. Now I am in until hell freezes over!
Sounds like me and a few of my stocks...

Wonder where RMI is today?
Took the day off for 3 days of window seat building...

Listening to Hank Williams
Uh, no...

Probably doing his homework. :D
No, should be, but not... Waaaay behind...

Long day, what happened in the market?

Some bullish news for those needing a lift..
CAN STOCKS EXTEND THEIR FIRST QUARTER WIN STREAK?
"Over the past 30 years, strong quarters have tended to be followed by more gains. From 1982 to the end of last year, there were 17 quarters in which the S&P rose 10 percent or more. Only twice were those gains followed by a losing quarter. Can stocks extend their first-quarter win streak? - Boston.com

I'm tired of being the hydrant!
