Jkenjohnson's Account Talk

Re: Signal

Today is shaping up to be real interesting. I may have to throw on my sticky pants and I have already tightened the seat belt. Good luck to all.
Do they sell sticky pants in the TSP Talk gift shop?

I've learned a lot here the last couple of months, but, unfortunately, some of the lessons learned are expensive.

I had been sitting in G, but knowing that I would be on vacation in early April (i.e., away from a computer and thinking that I would want to be in G), I decided to make a quick jump into C ... hoping to gain a bit before moving back to G next week. Of course, once I moved to C it's been only red days. Now today isn't looking too great. Nice move.

I don't know if I need sticky pants on an ejector button.

Tough decision. The sticky pants just show up when needed. Good luck.

One of the most difficult aspects of trading is picking an entry point.

This market has been difficult for me to figure out ... but, then again, it's the first time I've really paid attention!

Everyday there seems to be a mixture of news ... some is bullish ... some is bearish. Depending on what the market does on a given day, the press grabs onto whatever piece of news justifies the price move. "The market moved (up/down) because of (convenient news piece)." But everyday there is contradictory information. Argh.

Re: Signal

Probably yesterday would have been a good one?

Monday would have been best. I'm not ready to condemn the trend yet. By my calcs the S&P is still less than 2% below the top. Today looks bad, and may end bad. but is not yet anything like a free fall. Like I said, got my sticky pants on!

I'm staying in as long as system stays positive. It back tested to over 50% gains last year, If I remeber correctly.

Re: Signal

Leading economic indicators improve.

Jobless claims hold near four year lows.

Both this does not matter because Europe and China see slow growth?????????????

Not to divert your attention at IFT time, but I find this to be an interesting lead to a bigger question that's been burning a hole in my head for a few months now. For some reason unbeknownst to me, in mid-December, the markets did a 180-degree flop from one dominated by any good or bad news of the day with wild price fluctuations to one that really didn't care what the news was, it was going steadily up. I have no idea what that trigger was, maybe Santa told everyone to behave for 3 months. But as you mentioned, now the markets seem to be listening again, at least a little. Anybody have any idea what caused these (so we can look for them in the future??)

Sorry to spill into your thread jken, your question just really intrigued me.

It seems like you can time long range IFT moves from black thusday in Nov. to the month of May then stay away until the last thursday in Nov.
