From an old Marine friend of mine vacationing in Italy, received at 7:45am ET this morning:

"I don't know if it hit the main stream media yet but Italy and Malta just took a salvo of rockets from Libya. Estimates were from 60 to 80 missiles in total. The islands of Lampadusa and Pantelleria are just off the Libyean coast as is Malta. Gaddafi said he was sending a message to the rebels who fled Libya and sought refuge there that nowhere was safe from his revenge. The USS Kearsage and the USS Ponce are repositioning to intercept any more skuds launched and possibly to take action against Gaddafi, according to Italian T.V. and radio..."

Nothing noted on Drudgereport.com either, normally the latest website with breaking news...Only that Libyan rebels are offering a cease fire and that's a sign of weakness on their part, shows how they've been getting hammered lately..

Went to Italian news source and they are reporting that Italy has sent ferries to remove 2,000 Tunisan migrants from Lampedusa, and set them up in camps on Sicily.

IT, The story did seem odd that it wasn't being picked up by other news agencies. Sending missiles to those islands would have escalated the conflict to an all out war.
