Intrepid_Timer's PUBLIC Account Talk

I just ordered one of those MiFi 2200 Mobile Hotspot wireless broadband devices from Virgin Mobile. $40 a month for unlimited broadband. I'll let everyone know how it works if you are interested.

Let me know how it works for you Mike, I was doing some research on which carrier to choose for a mifi also, I'm interested in a 4g mifi device for my upcoming iPad device. I heard "CLEAR" has fast download and upload speeds.

Don't know if this helps... but most new phones (4G) come with wifi hotspot capabilities. Got the new HTC Evo (sprint) and I run my laptop and other things off of it with ease. It cost nothing extra to the plan (unlimited data) other than the new phone. Good luck with the search.

If considering "CLEAR" check thoroughly into coverage. Maps I have seen show extremely spotty availability in urban area. Almost as bad as trying to find a McDonalds. :)

Thanks for info. I'm on the phone too much for this option though I think. Plus I like to share with others. ;)

Good Morning! I am new to this site and I should probably post this in another thread, but since I subscribed to your premium service, I'll ask you.

I understand the "BUY" "SELL" "HOLD" lingo but I am a little confused as to how to apply that to TSP. I am a civil service employee. I get paid every two weeks like all other civil service. I can only "BUY" "SELL" and "HOLD" every two weeks by either changing my allocation of doing ITF. I could probaly change my allocation unlimited times but have not verified this yet.

So my question is-When you say buy, sell or hold anything, are you saying to do ITF and change allocation?

I'm also unclear if you are moving everything to G fund because of market or because you don't have anymore IFTs left for the month.

I don't want to assume anything and I apologize in advance if I just missed something.

Judy

Over simplified answer

Buy = move funds from G into S,C, I, F, equities or bonds or those L funds
Sell = leave equities or bonds go to the G fund

IFTs allowed per month = 2 (buying or selling) then unlimited selling (to G) only.

Someone will likely fill in the details :D

Thank you FAB. That's what I was guestimating. I'll probably just play around with the G and S funds and leave the other funds to the professionals.:)

Hi Judy, sorry for the delay in responding. If I"m reading this right, you are referring to Interfund Transfers(IFT) and contributions I believe. When I give buy and sell signals, I am referring to IFTs and not contributions. People have different ways of setting up their contributions and I don't think their is wrong way or right way. Totally a personal choice.

When my system gives a buy signal for equities, I always go into the S fund or some other small cap fund outside of TSP. Small cap funds are more volatile than large or mid cap funds and as a trader, this can increase your gains. It can also increase your losses though. The TSP funds (C,S or I) will outperform each other in different periods of time, so it's not a bad idea to diversify amongst them, if one choses to go that route.

When I move to the G fund, it is typically because my system is saying sell equities or because I am sitting in the F fund and a buy signal for equities is given but I am out of IFTs.

Hope this makes sense. :) My daily commentary shows which fund I am presently in and how many IFTs I have left.

Thanks Fab1! When my system gives a buy signal for equities, it does mean buy C,S or I, but it doesn't mean buy the F fund. I have a separate system for the F fund and I'll state when I will be using it. Thank goodness I'm not using it now........

Youre welcome!

Yes, but I wasnt referencing anything but the basic mechanics of TSP interfund transfers. I thought the poster just wanted some clarification on our general nomenclature so I kept it simple / stupid.

FAB and Intrepid. You were both right. I wanted to know how the BUY, SELL applied to TSP and I am aware that Intrepid's Buy signal does not refer to the F fund. :toung:

I can't access any either of the above two links and I am logged in. I get the following message

Not sure what do do about it other than cancel the subscription. Any advise?
