Intrepid_Timer's PUBLIC Account Talk

Thanks everyone for the great ideas. Looks like we'll be going with "Intrepid_Timer" because of it's compatibility and ease of recognition to "Intrepid_Trader". However, I did come up with a name for my trading system from all the input. The name will be "GreensKeeper".

Thanks for the idea kar crazy! I love the play on words and the fact that I worked at a golf course last year........:)
your welcome, any royalties with this , or a coffee mug:D (THE GREENS KEEPER)

Birchtree says on his thread that small caps have had their run (P/E'S @17) and Large Caps have room for more upside (P/E's @ 14.) Looking at this and other technical measures would C Fund be the place to be during current/future buy signal ?? :)

Not necessarily. The C fund may outperform if you are a buy and holder, but since my system is based on trading for shorter periods, I prefer the volatility of the S fund pretty much all the time.

One thing you could look at is, when my system gets it's next buy signal, check to see which fund has dropped the farthest from my previous sell signal. This "may" indicate that it'll bounce back up higher. This will normally just be a choice between the S and I funds though. If you don't mind the I fund, it may be a better choice. I'll stick to the S fund though.....;)

Well, I do happen to have a TSPtalk mug that comes pre-disassembled.......:p

:laugh:comes with constructions (instructions) just messing with you , dog tired just drove down to florida and back barely know who i am , too old for those al niter's anymore, weather was great down there ,now back to freezing ahh but i am home:embarrest:

I hear that. I use to be able to drive from Maryland to Texas in 30 hours with just 3 hours sleep in a roadside park. Not anymore......I'll lucky to make it to the Texas border from central TX now...............

Hope you had a great time in Florida! Too darned humid for me............

BTW, even though it's cold here in Texas in the mornings, it's a dry cold.................LOL!

I wonder if this is what happened to the TSPtalk server today?

"Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks have become a commonplace threat to online businesses. With over 50,000 distinct attacks per week, DDoS attacks have become highly visible and costly forms of cyber-crime, and are increasingly being proactively addressed by online businesses to avoid devastating costs of DDoS-related downtime."

Could be. I wondered why you were seemingly absent today. I thought it was perhaps due to lack of trades left for the month :sick:or that you were tooling about in your motor home on some vacant stretch of desert high way chasing the horizon.

Thanks for your feedback. The I Fund did work for us this month, despite it's volatility. I'll stick with your recommendations in the future.:)

As long as I got my satellite internet connection, sounds good to me!! ;)

Well, let's see if Obama talking tomorrow night and the Fed announcement on Wed can take this market higher. Dow 12000 coming up. It'll be interesting to see how close they are to raising rates. What if they did Wed?

I would suspect tomorrow will be a slightly down day in anticipation of the aforementioned occurrences................

You watch it I_T and let me know what you think later, I cant stand the site of him. Remember when the Presidential Seal fell off the lectern when he was talking? I believe in Signs.

Sorry, I'll be watching the Lifetime channel with mama...................:)

Nice to see the small caps outperforming again today. Since my last signal, large caps have outperformed and have been in the green while small caps have lagged. Today should bring them back into the green also. Although I we'll probably get some volatility while the day traders play their little games, I still expect small caps to post a nice return. Looks like my system may be setting up for a sell signal tomorrow so we may not be getting that usual pop at the beginning of month in Feb. Guess we shall see.................

I-T, thanks for helping us newbies out, I missed your last sell signal and got stuck in the F fund for one extra day so I'm lagging behind a bit. Anyway, the question I have is do you have advice for any of us who also carry a Roth IRA? I'm currently with Vanguard (who has funds very similar to TSP), but with Vanguard, you can't buy into a fund for two months once you've sold your shares. Therefore, your system unfortunately does not work for Vanguard roth IRAs. I'm just trying to find a good system for my Roth, I guess there is the dreaded *gulp* buy-and-hold strategy.

Thanks again I_T.

If you owned individual stocks inside your Roth IRA the buy and hold strategy would be perfect - it takes time for good gains to grow.

Sounds like Van Guard doesn't really want or need your business, I don't have this issue with USAA and they carry their own Mutual Funds too.

You're preaching to the choir, I have USAA mutual funds for my boy's Coverdell education accounts. I've thought about switching it all to USAA, but I'm not sure if their mutual funds align as well with the TSP funds. Their Extended Market Index fund seems the closest to the S fund, but it doesn't seem to be as close as the Vanguard Extended Market Index Fund. Occasionally, when the S fund goes up, the USAA fund actually goes down a little, but their overall returns were only 5-10% different, so I guess it's in the ballpark at least. But they both seem to be invested a little differently. Again, I'm just a newb to all of this, so forgive my lack of financial knowledge. ;)

Thanks for the advice, this isn't the first time I've thought of moving everything to USAA.

Essentially they are one and the same, the chart I posted shows a direct comparison between the two funds over the last 3 years. We can see we have a 3.64% deviation, or a 1.21 % average annual deviation. The second chart (for 2010 alone) shows USAA outperformed the Wilshire 4500, tit-for-tat.

USMIX: Seeks to match, before fees and expenses, the performance of
the U.S. stocks not included in the S&P 500 Index as represented
by the Dow Jones U.S. Completion Total Stock Market Index.

Wilshire 4500: is a market capitalization-weighted index of all stocks actively traded in the United States with the exception of the stocks included in the S&P 500 index. The index is created by removing the stocks in the S&P 500 Index from the Wilshire 5000.
