I made the same mistake. My mistake was in trusting the TSP.gov homepage which had nothing posted and should have in my opinion. I think it is silly that they only posted it on the Share Price page. At minimum it should be posted on the Homepage, Account Access page, and the Share Price page and should be posted a week prior to the event. Voice your opinion, it's your TSP!

You are right that they don't post for an Early Warning. W_W always called the Officeto confirm, then let the rest of us know. Without her we may have gotten too lax. I called last week, andposted in several places, even clarifying on another date that Yes,tsp Would Be closed. Maybe my print wasn't big enough; or I should have started a thread Closed On Columbus Day, or, maybe, I just should have asked someone else to post that under Their name??? :P

The fact is, since I joined this past winter I have never seen the confusion over a Federal Holiday closing as I haveseen this week !!:*

Oh - this reminds me -

I heard on the news that Wednesday's Power-ball lottery is at 400 Million??? That is difficult to believe!

Yeah, but that would seriously blow the "very low administrative costs" now wouldn't it? :D

It doesn't appear the email alert went out timely. My thinking for this move was a big bounce in U.S. stocks may produce a rally in the overnight markets of the Far East and Europe early next week (Sunday night here). With the market well off it's high as of 2:00 PM ET, this isn't as appealing as it seemed earlier. I still plan to move to the C and S funds if and when we test the recent lows next week.

I don't know the status of the TSP offices for the holiday Monday. The stock market is open but I'm not sure if we will be able to make transfers. You may want to act today to have one effective Tuesday.

the message that tsp would be closed today was posted thru-out this tsp-talk in various places all this past week.

It is closed every Federal Holiday, and there are several....

It would have made sense for them to post this message last week. We'll have to remember this next year andin November....Veteran's Day the market will be open( I believe) but the TSP closed.

This message off the TSP site today -

The Thrift Savings Plan is closed on Monday, October 10, 2005, for Columbus Day. Therefore, share prices will not be updated and transactions will not be processed until the following business day.

According to CNN:
"Monday is likely to be a quiet day for stocks, with many Wall Street professionals out for the Columbus Day holiday. Stock markets will be open for trading, but Treasury bond markets will not. Banks are also closed for the national holiday."

:'
TOKYO, Oct 10 (Reuters) - The Tokyo stock market is closed on Monday for Health-Sports Day, a national holiday, and resumes trading on Tuesday.

Looks like they won't be open so the earliest effective date on any transaction will beWednesday morning (COB Tuesday). I'm not sure that is right for them to do with the market being open.

That's a good question ...if the TSP offices will be open Monday to allow transfers. I had planned to switch from "G" to "C" before noon Monday if the market was down. Now I'm not sure. I was only going to play it short term, then switch back to "G"

All kinds of problems today. I wrote in the comments, and actually made a transfer to100% I fundFriday morning.

I later realized my initial thought of 30% G, 70% I fund went on the email alert (which had problems and did not go out until after the deadline) and the message board post so, for the sake of my tally, I will use 30% G, 70% I fund.

Sorry for the confusion. See what happens when you stop making weekly transfers? You forget what to do. :)

Stocks are up today on the weak, but stronger than expected employment report. Moves in the market after surprises in the jobs report tend to reverse in the days ahead. Because of that I will wait to get into U.S. stocks, but will move to 100% I fund for Monday as Japan should play catch up to this rally next week. Making an interfund transfer Friday morning going 30% G, 70% I fund. This is a short term move.
