House Legislation today

Boehner says today, on Meet the Press, that they are going to reject the bipartisan Senate payroll tax two month extension. Not enough federal employee retirement cuts in it for House republicans.

So, once again. House (R)'s blocking the bi-partisan Senate compromise that was worked out to move it for two more months.

I think one way or another cuts to our retirement are going to happen. This only is delaying it.

The President proposed we pay more towards are retirement. Not as much as the Republicans, but he is open to it. That tells me it will happen in one form or another. The question simply is how much, and when.

I cringe every time I see Boner on TV and I am a Republican! I hate that arrogant SOB.

Two-Month Payroll Tax Holiday Passed By Senate, Pushed By President, Cannot Be Implemented Properly, Experts Say

Officials from the policy-neutral National Payroll Reporting Consortium, Inc. have expressed concern to members of Congress that the two-month payroll tax holiday passed by the Senate and supported by President Obama cannot be implemented properly.
Pete Isberg, president of the NPRC today wrote to the key leaders of the relevant committees of the House and Senate, telling them that “insufficient lead time” to implement the complicated change mandated by the legislation means the two-month payroll tax holiday “could create substantial problems, confusion and costs affecting a significant percentage of U.S. employers and employees.”

Going to be a lot of Feds retiring in 2012.

There has been a 25% increase in folks retiring in 2011, i'm one of em! 11 freakin days to go!

OPM estimates that in 2012 and 13 they will see a doubling of their CURRENT backlog of appx. 90K retirements.

Going to be a lot of Feds retiring in 2012.

That's what they're hoping for. Reduce the size of the workforce, make those unfortunate enough to be ineligible for retirement now pay more for their retirement, then bring in lower paid staff when the economy turns around and there's a need for more workers.

I read this little piece of legislation and here it goes.

1. Supplementalal annuity is gone for all FERS that retire after this year. What that mean is that if you go at your MRA and before the 62 social security age, no more supplement for you. Better forget the whole MRA BS and hold out til 62.
2. CSRS and FERS both get a .5% increase each year for 2013, 2014 and 2015. And, it permanentnte.
3. New hires and those already on the rolls with less than 5 years will be under, what I will call, FERS 2.0 and it ain't pretty. You will get .7% for each year of service instead of 1% and your average will be over your high 5 instead of your high 3.

Now that is a 30% decrease just in the percentage of years of service not counting the decrease from the average high 5 calculation. Congress and LEO's only get a 17% reduction. LOL, Congress is looking out for the little guy.

We need to CALL THEM OUT using every federal employee's voice and vote.

Sounds like the Senate knew what was going on and bailed on them. Original House bill was 370 pages but the Senate bill was slashed to 37.

Buster- Archie bunker is dead.

So is the tax break deal. Conservatives killed it.

It's over.
The Conservatives killed it because the Dems were stalling with a stupid two month extenion..it was worthless..so why pass it when in two months, they'll right back at it again...sheess, get a clue.

Ok. sure. Drink the koolaid.

Let me see if I got this right-

In the Senate, republicans refused to allow a vote on the House version of the bill. They knew the Senate would flat-out reject the House version, with all it's federal employee cuts. So the (R)'s refused to even let it come to a Senate vote.

So the Senate then created a two-month bill that continued the tax relief, and the medicare doctor payment provisions for two more months, to give time for both houses to work out a deal. And that passed bipartisanly with 89 votes.

But then the House republican leadership refused to allow that Senate bipartisan deal to be voted on in the House. Instead, they set up a rejection vote instead of a vote to approve the Senate version.

And as a result, taxes will go up, and doctor's payments will be cut.

Personally, I think the Senate passed the two month bill so the could take another month off with pay. Just another reason why we are on our way to another downgrade.

Austarity is coming, but it always starts with the government employee's. The Senate did not want to deal with it this year so they stripped out the austarity parts and set up a short term fix. This will be back on the radar.
