House Legislation today

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-controlled House has passed legislation sought by President Barack Obama to extend Social Security payroll tax cuts through 2012. But the bill also includes a requirement for construction of an oil pipeline that has drawn a veto threat.

The vote was 234-193.

The measure now goes to the Senate, where top Democrats strongly oppose the pipeline provision.

Note that the only thing in the story that appears objectionable so far, is the pipeline deal.

Amazing.

We're toast.

Note to self- learn new phrase for "New" old age republican pension plan - "You want fries with that?"

from the story:
Rep. Sander Levin of Michigan, the party's senior lawmaker on the Ways and Means Committee, displayed a placard that said "Seniors sacrifice: $31 billion. Federal workers sacrifice: $40 billion. Unemployed Americans sacrifice: $11 billion. Millionaires and billionaires sacrifice: $0."

Sounds like a decent compromise to me even tho I think the Social Security payroll cut is like shooting yourself in the foot. The folks that still have job should continue to fund their future...................Social Security. Worst thing you can do when you get in finacial problem is to under fund one of the three legs of your FERS retirement plan.

I not only remember it, years later I dated an ATC who landed his job because of the strike. We too are replaceable when 20% of the country is unemployed-oh, and that doesn't count the kids still coming out of school with huge loan debts to pay off. Back when my mom was a teacher, teachers in that state weren't allowed to strike, even tho they were union. been wrapping my brain around union/right to work/strike question intermittently ever since.

I have always voted Republican in the past. After what I have seen in Congress and the Senate this past year, I don't want to be affiliated with either party. All politicians disgust me.

I couldn't AGREE more!..Especially after that 11th hour debacle they pulled with the debt ceiling.

Retirement applications up 24 percent from last year

December 13, 2011

Retirement applications for the first 10 months of 2011 are up 24 percent from the same period in 2010, according to statistics from the Office of Personnel Management and as reported Monday by Federal Times.

Federal Times said 92,000 applications have been filed so far this year, and a total of nearly 104,700 federal employees could file in 2011 if the rate continues. This would make 2011 the busiest year for federal retirement applications since at least 2001, the earliest year such statistics were available.
The rats are scrambling off the sinking ship...

I agree as well, but what the hell are we supposed to do now? Seems like we are screwed either way. I think the entire congress should be fired and regular non politicians should be elected. They be able to get something done as they don't have all those other groups in their back pocket.

Contact your Senator at the website below to tell them that they should oppose HR 3060 that would freeze federal pay for a 3rd consecutive and painful year.

Did it yesterday and got a standard "form letter" rsponse. THEY DON'T CARE WHAT WE WANT! THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT WHAT THEY WANT! They think they are much more intelligent than we are and that we don't understand the debt situation. If we tax people making millions of dollars, no new jobs will be created - don't ya'll get it?

Public servants don't get a vote when the budget is in shambles the the debt is outrageous. Don't you guys watch the coverage of the Greek riots? Why are they rioting? lol Can you connect the dots and see the correlation?

I get a vote.... I am confused, don't you get the same vote I get?

More of a figurative response, Greeks get a vote too but look what is happening, the government is going against the Democratic public opinion to try and contain the budget and debt problems. So in essence the public vote means nothing once you get to that point. Changing the leadership does nothing to change the existing budget and debt problems. Same problems we are facing here. I am living it because I work for the USPS, when I call the politicians they tell us so sorry but where will the money come from.

Also, you need to accept that you are a second class citizen even to the poor. Even according to them, they help pay your wages and your vote is the minority and in self preservation according to them. Welcome to government service, service being the key word.
