House Legislation today

What's the difference between the Boy Scouts and the Senate? The Boy Scouts have adult leadership.

Let's spread the holiday cheer around a bit shall we, the House is just as guilty of lacking true leadership. Part of leadership is knowing when compromise is better than inaction due to political philosophy. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing much leadership coming from the White House either. The people of this country deserve better than what's been coming out of DC for the last decade.

The Conservatives killed it because the Dems were stalling with a stupid two month extenion..it was worthless..so why pass it when in two months, they'll right back at it again...sheess, get a clue.

"The conservative Wall Street Journal editorial page is already asking the House GOP to raise the white flag. “The GOP leaders have somehow managed the remarkable feat of being blamed for opposing a one-year extension of a tax holiday that they are surely going to pass. This is no easy double play. Republicans have also achieved the small miracle of letting Mr. Obama position himself as an election-year tax cutter.” The editorial page goes on to say, “At this stage, Republicans would do best to cut their losses and find a way to extend the payroll holiday quickly. Then go home and return in January with a united House-Senate strategy that forces Democrats to make specific policy choices that highlight the differences between the parties on spending, taxes and regulation.”"

In football terms, the House GOP fumbled the rock. BALL!

Wake me when it's over. It appears to be clown act time in the United States Circus, oops, I mean, United States Congress. I wish they would get their act together. Even if you cannot have consensus, you need compromise. Compromise greases the wheels. The tea partiers are reducing government to a 24/7 food fight. Not good. Sorry, Birch, but that is my opinion. I still like you. Merry Christmas and Happy Hannukah to all! See my post in Problems, What's Up, it's about Europe, the other crazy train.

Lawmakers Reach Payroll-Tax Deal

WASHINGTON—Congressional leaders reached an agreement Thursday to temporarily extend a payroll-tax cut by two months and begin negotiations on a yearlong extension, aides said.

House Speaker John Boehner announced that congressional leaders reached an agreement to temporarily extend a payroll-tax cut. Wall Street Journal Global Economics Editor David Wessel reports.

The agreement could end a political stalemate over the payroll-tax cut, which lowered Social Security taxes for 160 million Americans in 2011. Under the tentative agreement, the House will vote again on a two-month extension and the Senate will prepare to negotiate for an extension that will run through 2012.

It's a collective body of men and women constituting a collective problem. The informed wise folks know to leave any partisinship out of it.
Uhhhhh, did they break away from America's Got Talent to become informed or did they just listen to Brian's and Diane's interpretations?

The battle lines have drawn. The House thought they could flex a little muscle and they found out they were the 90 pound weakling in the room. They have been embarrassed by members of their own party. It is only going to get worse. February may not be a good month to be in the market. It is going to get ugly.

The Senate this morning passed the 2-month extension by unanimous consent, with a caveat, that if the House doesn't vote to approve the bill by December 31, the Senate appointment of conferees will be revoked.

The House is just having opening prayer now.

The House just "passed" it without a vote. And there is nobody in the chamber except about three Congressmen. Everybody else is gone. Nobody was there to object, so it was considered passed.

Two month extension now goes to the Whitehouse for signature.

Uhhhhh, did they break away from America's Got Talent to become informed or did they just listen to Brian's and Diane's interpretations?

You must not have read the whole post. You know the part about ifn your wise, one knows to LEAVE PARTISINSHIP OUT OF IT.

Senator Harry Reid talking on C-Span now about the impact on federal employees.

Says he understands concerns of federal employees, but he expect a lot to be done relating to concessions and federal employees when they sit down to negotiate in the long-term payroll bill.

Says federal employees should expect cuts ahead.

(Bend over, folks- that's what Harry just implied. Not in the 20-month extension, but in the negotiatons over the year-long deal. )
