Hello Everyone,
My name is Anthony, and I need to get a clue about TSP. I've been contributing a small portion of my paycheck to it for a few years now, but I've allowed 100% of my contributions to sit in the G Fund account, and I'm thinking it's time I learn a thing or two about my options. I suspect that I may be better served moving some of funds around, but I just don't know. That's really why I am here. I know I need to save money. I know I should be investing money. I just don't know exactly what to do. Hopefully I can pick up some good tips here. To give you a better idea of who I am and where I am at in my life, here's some details.
Life:
- In October, I'll have 11 years invested in the Acitve Duty Air Force.
- I am married with a son on the way, any day now.
- I am not a home owner yet, for numerous reasons, although it does bother me that I make payments into a place I have no equity in.
- I know next to nothing about investing.
My wallet:
- I have 5 Series I Bonds worth $1K a piece. I don't plan on buying any more, but I thought I should have a few.
- Regretfully I must admit, I just opened two savings accounts a few months ago. One is for emergencies, the other is for my son. I currently have just over $1.1K saved between the two.
- I have been lazy with my Roth IRA, but I do have one. $600 invested last year, and $400 mosre invested this year. Don't tase me!!!
- I have invested over $11K in TSP, although I haven't done much more than view my account every few months. I would like to do something other than just sit on that money, but I don't know what to do.
- Finally, I don't suffer from any credit card debt or student loans. IMO, that's a big plus, so I'm boasting about it. :cheesy:
Anyway, I hope I can learn some things here, and any tips are always appreciated. Have a good one!
