I was not furloughed...just in basic category of "you must come to work and you'll probably get paid later on"

But I think of the famous quote "No man is an island unto themselves...ask not for whom the bell tolls...it tolls for thee."

I am no more essential than any one of you that was furloughed...I hope this ends quickly for all of you....and that you get back pay in the end.
We had some of those have to work guys upset because we got the back pay without working once.

I DO NOT think folks will be getting back pay. And, folks who are working may find the IOUs rather worthless.

I'm with Nasa ! ...this is one reason I decided to retire early, when I did...saw this (and a lot more !) BS coming down the tunnel !

Good luck to those of you dealing with this crap...I've "been there, done that", and I feel for y'all.

Stoplight...

That is my sense this time around as well, Boghie. don't ask me why, it just is. woman's intuition? I knew we'd get furloughed, didn't have to pass it to see that coming.

Last time around I put in for unemployment cuz they told us to, did the job hunts, never submitted the jobhunt record, never drew a UE check before they called us back. this time feels different.

This time, I'm working on upgrading my resume while spending time helping family that needs help badly right now. timing is ironic.

I got furloughed, and had to go straight to jury duty. Yippee! I didn't get selected so maybe I can enjoy a day off tomorrow.

I think we'll get back pay.

I got one for ya. A buddy of mine I work with is in a excepted position. Has to come to work during the furlough with me because of job but he received a RIF notice 2 weeks ago and he is not being bumped. Strange.

Yes. If this goes on for more than a week I will likely have to withdraw my application for a home loan...withing a couple weeks of closing on my first house. Lovely.

Hopefully your docs will be funded before you have to show no income....then you should be in your new house......Good Luck! My fingers are crossed for ya!

Not furloughed. All FBI field offices and Legat offices are exempt. A large number of employees at FBIHQ have been furloughed. Like the rest of you, I won't be getting paid for these work days until this is resolved. I was part of the shut down in the mid 90s that went 3 weeks and everyone who was furloughed got a 3 week vacation and all their pay back when they returned.

PLANO, this ain't the 90's. You will probably get paid, those of us who are not that important will probably not be.

It's funny, in the 90's my computer center was deemed mission essential. I think the command took it out of hide. Ten years of crappy service by NMCI and 5 years of crappy leadership banging into the same palm trees day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year has resulted in us losing that status. There is literally nobody left in the command that knows what a data center can do - including most of those staffing the data center. Oh well...

Luckily, the crappy leadership was actually fired and forced out. We are recovering, but not fast enough.

So furlough again. I think our customer's Microsoft Word application will survive without us. In 2013 we think an Adobe form is automation, in 2003 such a statement would have been laughed at. Yowser...

I still expect everyone will get paid when this is done. If not, it would be the first time it's ever happened in the 17 shut downs since 1976. But there's always a first for everything and time will tell the answer. I hope everyone gets paid.

I went to the commissary at 6 PM yesterday. There was a notice posted on the entry door saying the store would be closed tomorrow (today) until further notice because. All workers are furloughed (in a sense). Most of the checkout lanes were closed. I went inside and it was a madhouse. There were long, long lines trying to check out. Others were trying to grab stuff and two ladies were trying to grab the last package of hotdogs in the cooler. I put my cart back and left the store. Lucky we have a few stores off base like Walmark and Fred Myer to shop at.

It was the same here Handballer.
You would have thought there was a severe weather event on the horizon. It was payday though so add that to the mix.

as long as you keep the car payments current you can always park it in a nice neighborhood at night and dream.

That works til it doesn't. Encountered a young woman with young children sitting on curb in a vacant lot across from the groc store the other night. cold drizzle coming down, dark coming, no raingear on her or the kids, just cotton sweatshirts, hypothermia weather. Had totalled her car over in the next town. holding a sign saying please help.

asked if she had place to stay, she said they were currently in a tent behind the local tribal casino, that social services was trying to get her and the kids into a house, that her son, 8-10yo by looks of him, went to school here in our town. offered her a ride back to their tent (10 miles from the groc store), they were finishing small bowls of soup from the deli while sitting there on the curb.

she said her daughter was somewhere, she had to wait for the daughter to return. meanwhile she and the 10yo sitting on the curb with a sign asking for help, a much younger child sitting 20 feet away silently huddled under a shade tree, no rain gear, cold drizzle, dark coming. I gave her a bit of cash from my wallet, hope she and the kids caught a ride back to their tent before hypothermia set in. hope they get in better shelter soon.
