Forbes wants to cut Gov't Pay

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'll suffer with an across the board pay cut, if I can be assured that it will go to reducing the deficit ONLY and not some dang liberal entitlement program. It would have to be a very tightly written law and someone that we all can trust to oversee it used the correct way.

Now we just gotta find one honest person in DC. Maybe Charlie Rangel.

I would reduce State and Federal expenditures differently...

I would challenge all departments and line items in the budget that did not exist in - say -1968.

Obviously, many of these expenditures can be justified - but, we can use a pre-bloat document as the baseline. There has been bloat on bloat. The bloat has generated a 'need' to manage the bloat. An aweful lot of big gubmint bloat was baked in during the warm and fuzzy times...

Who among us really feel that the number of Federal jobs should have increased over the past two years?

Anyone?

The folks out there will be making demands on us that we are not used to. Soon they will defund us - if they haven't gone Gault on us already...

250K here 250k there and pretty soon you talkin about big money. A 250K saving is worth somthing for haveing done so. Let me guess your NSPS pay pool is made up of neumerous arrogant active duty 05/06's. Ours is! Ever have the feeling lately that they want your job when you leave or retire, I know I have.

My suggestion in the Air Force was in 1989, I got $100 for the suggestion of the net savings of $250K.

I do not know if that would even be considered today. I work for NAVSEA.

There use to a program here, think forms are still in boxes along some of the more vacant hallways. Most recognition like this now comes from the branch, division or department level managers, and is few and far between, but that's not to say I don't like fancy certificates or plaques. Raced for trophies all my life, work is no different I guess.
NAVAIR here, have been dealing a tiny bit with NAVSEA via BRAC contract execution, mostly as a technical consultant (not my position). Often thought about looking into North Island, moved away mid 80's, don't think I could afford to get back into the housing market after living in the boondocks for 26 years.

Late good morning gentleman.
Been a while :)

Utilizing STEP and CEEP employees, digging resources out of the recycling area, utilizing 27 years experience and providing a cost savings to upstart a program of around 250K, was told on NSPS reconsideration request the amount was minimal savings for the organization. Which Naval Command do you serve under?

Cheers

Thanks bro, and thanks for reminding me, I apologize for the oversight of our Coasties!

I have always used the Suggestion Forms (AF Form 1000) for Spot savings and even got a check, because I saved the Air Force 250,000 in acquisition of Computer Paper! I donated the check to the Airmen's Attic/Thrift Store at Fairchild!!!!

Thanks Elgallo!

Being in budget inside the Beltway... I can think of 100 things to do before cutting fed pay that wouldn't be AS deflationary. But I'm thinking to not give this link to Forbes anymore eyeballs because that's all the authors/editors want... eyeballs and conflict and to politicize our pay... which is a realm we don't want it to go towards.

At least this confirms my notion that Forbes is a financial rag/blog versus anything resembling jounalism integrity.

Spot on FRIXX!! ...

There has always been a saying "There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Army, Navy, AF, Marine, and CG way."

Kinda says it all eh.

Spot on FRIXX!! BTW I'm a Nor Cal Boy and agree with your position on CA taxes. However just because the Constitution states that our common defense be provided for, being a DOD employee I see no justification what so ever to ingnor the quantum waste I see every day.

There is PLENTY, I repeat PLENTY, of other "low hanging fruit" besides cutting/freezing our pay.

Such as:

Multiple Service Academy's, Army, Navy, AF, CG
Multiple Postgraduate level AFn Navy
Multiple Defense Language Institutes Army, Navy
Multipule War Colleges with satillite campuses

There has always been a saying "There's the right way, the wrong way, and the Army, Navy, AF, Marine, and CG way."

Sounds like Jim Bunting is the voice of reason in the Senate.

America is under a mountain of debt. Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke said in a hearing last month that the United States' debt is unsustainable. We are on the verge of a tipping point where America's debt will bring down our economy, and more people will join the unemployment lines. That is why I used my right as a United States Senator and objected.

Now that I said that I am willing to make a sacrifices to help the Nation. I will add that the "mob" or Democracy and the elected leaders are the ones that got us where we are today. So I say the cuts should start there first.

Cut budgets and salaries of all executive and elected officials and their staffs. Cut services to the people that voted for the idiots because they voted for them because they were promised something at taxpayer expense for that vote.

Seems like a fair place to start.

I'm not opposed to a 10% cut for the greater good, but we all know they will just waste the savings on another earmark or pet project.

When you make a 10% cut, cut across the board starting with the leadership, contractors, services, agency budgets, and everything. We all feel the pain together as a Nation.

We have 2 million Federal workers now and a additional 700,000 USPS employee's that are not counted as Federal workers. I'm seeing some real changes coming in the future for us all. We have contract negotiations coming up at the end of this year and I see a new pay scale and benefit package for the new hires coming.

AND - add in EVERYONE in the White House, in the Capitol, in and out
of the Chambers, the Senate building, etc... Those `eliminated' lobbyists, included. :D
Start there - do that for a year First.......
(did I leave any politico out??)
Of course you did, but we can't get them all on the first cast!!

Why not cut the pay of everyone that works at Forbes?

Yeah! Get rid of all the agencies I don't work for! Buy more $800 toilet seats! Raise DoD pay! Yeah!

Frixx, you're going to have to speak alittle louder. They can't hear you and if they could they would not listen.
Their favorite saying is that we don't PRODUCE anything. No rahm dick tracy, neither does the HR person at the steel mill.

I don't think you understood what I was saying. I am saying that our federal government is too big. I justified the military as one of the few "Constitutional" items the federal government is chartered to create and fund for.

My rant is on the reduction of federal government AND reduction of budget. I live in California where I get federally taxed identical to the rest of the country on my income, YET only 74 cents comes back to my state. That is a federal welfare program I cannot abide by and now they want more of California to support a socialized program with healthcare which means I will be taxed more and get less return.

$800 dollar toilet seats are a thing of the past. That paid for all the "secret" projects the government didn't want you to know about. There is way more accountability now that we are a more open society.

DOD pay raise, why thank you, I am sure the Marines, Soldiers, Sailors, and Airmen appreciate your sentiment, BTW- how much does your freedom cost anyway?

Look, there are viable needs in this country. I will be the first in line to do my fair share. I serve as a Navy Civilian designing state of the art systems to ensure the Fleet stays ready. I also put an Air Force uniform on when required to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. I have taken two oaths to serve in both capacities.

I ask that certain items the government is paying for be stopped. Foreign Aid is a big one.....If we can't take care of the Veterans and Homeless in this country, how can we even think of being a beacon of hope to other countries? We gave this sovereignty up when we joined the United Nations which required us to put in money.

My argument with Forbes is their short-sightedness by saying such ignorant things like a flat 10% cut. That's like saying we should just shut down NASA, they don't do much for the planet anyway.

10% cut affects you too softball. I know this. They never mentioned that they would cut retirement by that amount too, but then, they were a little short-sighted there too!

This is definitely not a switch to be turned off or on, but to be rationalized, ratified and rectified! Peace be with you!
