EricDeLee's account talk

Another good Silver buy today. Walking around a flea market, saw a guy with 11 Morgan Dollars. "How much are they?" I asked. $15. Thanks. I'll take them all.

I have not posted a lot lately, but I've been checking in all of the time. Good to see I finally made a good move. I got out of 100% C fund about 4 days ago, missing about 3% lost had I been in the S Fund. Effective COB yesterday, I entered back into S fund for (hopefully) good gains today.

A few few moves like that can make your year! (Or break your year)

back to my reading of "dividends". Time to get serious.

I've been reading for the past two months about dividends and growth of dividends. I read a few books now, and now I think I am getting the "Birchtree" fever.
Understanding the yields, and the yearly dividend growth percentages and seeing how they can actually compound over time makes it really exciting.

I think BT likes to collect a lot of dividends... I think I can settle for a solid ten or so. Yet... Once I start, will I catch that fever and start collecting them all?

One thing I'd like to see is a calculator somewhere that shows everything like the one on getrichwithdividends calculator... But with perhaps an added feature where you supplement the principal each year with additional funds. That calculator basically puts a set starting amount in, and calculates from there. In addition to that, I'd like to see what it could grow to, if I made "catch-up" contributions for five or ten years.

The advantage of dividend reinvestments for me is that there is no trading risks - I just buy on autopilot. And over the long term when you buy doesn't really matter. The important fact is you are constantly buying assets that have the potential to appreciate. I have 105 dividends due in June and if June is a sideways month, well that's to my long term advantage because I'm buying golden prices and more shares. The dividends grow every three months and when you receive a dividend increase, well that's like a cost of living adjustment. It never ends....

I'm curious if the normal trend this year will continue. After a 1% gain, we generally take that as a loss the very next day. This year has been finicky. I'm hoping things ease up. Keep the profits in our pocket.

Dividends: Do you have advice for a beginner? I've heard of buying straight from the company at a possible discount of the stock price. As well as doing dividends through them. Sometimes cheaper I suppose.

Just trying to figure out a more strategic way to reinvest the dividends. Won't most trade companies do it automatically for you at no cost

DRIP - Dividend Reinvestment Plan

DRIPS are fine but they do produce more paperwork than you need. Open a Roth IRA and buy some stocks you may have familiarity with and just reinvest the dividends. For me, the nice thing about dividends is that most times they are forever. I collect 876 dividends that are reinvested yearly so far and will probably increase those payouts to 1000 - my monthly Merrill Edge account runs 346 pages - it takes hours to cut through it, but so much fun to see what my dividends buy and at what golden price. Have fun and increase your financial security with a nice income stream.

It's been a while, but I think it's time for me to be more active in the forums!

Lots of changes have happened since I was last hanging out in the forums. I switched over to Warrant Officer after 20 years as an enlisted member. Great move and great investment for my time. I've pretty much guaranteed myself a better retirement, plus I'm still doing what I love.

Worked more towards financial freedom in the past two years. Only a truck payment left, as well as a mortgage. But I've knocked that principal down by nearly $40k in that past two years.

Still chugging along and investing in my TSP. Three years ago, I invested in a couple of stocks I thought were good buys for my Roth.
I bought BSX. Shares went from @ $8.30 to what they are now. I'm pretty happy about that. Bought Clorox as well. It's been doing well. I bought it for the purpose of dividends. Wish I would have bought a bit more.

How's everyone else doing?!

Good to have you back, glad to hear all the good news. What is amazing is you may have one of the last posts from BT still visible on your thread! He's not been around for a while now...

Where the heck did he go? I was learning a lot from him

In your interfund transfer posts you indicated your strategy has you moving out of C back to G on July 23. Can you share your strategy? Is it based on seasonality?

Hola. Sorry, but as you can tell I’ve been quiet on these forums for a few years.
I think I answered your question earlier in a message.
Basically I follow a TSPCALC astray that I selected and made a few adjustments towards it.
