OMG, that brings back memories. Before I began my Air Force career, I was working at a gas station and yes was even driving a 73 Nova. And believe it or not gas was 48.9 cents per gallon.

still have my '73 duster 340 4 spd w/rare a/c option. one of these days I need to put it back together.

Mopar.. My dad got me a Dodge Dart, my 1st car. I'm not a big car guy, but if I remember, it was the 1st year of electronic ignition, '73 I believe. Slant 6, yes?

My 1st lesson - when changing your own spark plugs, don't pull ALL the wires at the same time, change the plugs, then wonder which wires go where. The engine was rocking, looked like it wanted to jump out of the chassis. Drove 10 mph to a gas station where the mechanic chuckled and said, "you got the firing order all mixed up". He knew the order by memory, put the wires back and had me on my way. I knew mechanic (pro or hobby) was not in my cards...

Never had one, but I do recall back in the day people saying how the Slant Six was virtually indestructible. That you could abuse the ever luvin dog crap out of it, and it just never died. :dunno:

that's because the /6 was designed to be an aluminum block engine. however when it turned out that the aluminum metallurgy of the day wasn't there to mass produce the engine, it was made in cast iron, but still had all the oversize measurements for an aluminum engine block. so the bottom end, crank shaft, bearings etc., was the same specs/size as the high power 440 engine. so the /6 was really over built for every day use.

​That's cool man, I never knew that. A friend back then had an old Plymouth Valiant with a slant 6 and he dogged that thing to death, and it just kept goin and goin. You couldn't kill it. :laugh:

My Mom had a 73 Scamp with a slant 6. Somewhere in the 80s the oil pressure light started coming on after you drove it a few miles. Only had about 60K on it. Never got to checking it out as I had other things to do while on leave. Shoulda. May have been an oil pan full of sludge as it rarely got driven more than a mile per day. Didn't make any noise when oil light came on. Just memories of a slant 6.

I owned a 73 Duster with 318 2bbl way back. Peppy. Had to sell it to buy tickets for family to join me in Germany. E-3, no dependent travel for them.

Wasn't online yesterday, so I'm late for the /6 talk but thought I'd thro sump'n in. ... My 2nd car was a '71 Duster 2-door with slant-6 & 3-speed manual transmission on the floor; bought when I was 18 in '78 for $800 at an auction. My '61VW Square-back had crapped out; I was very poor & didn't know what to try for, thinking a Nova, but friend/dealer with me recommended the Duster saying the /6 was the best engine out there for my needs. Kept that car for 4.5 years and it was a charm - nothing fancy but it ran-&-ran, used leaded-gas & got about 20mpg I recall. Sold it for $400 before going to Army Basic Training and my 1st assignment in Berlin. I overall would say that was the best car I've owned. It was like a "tank" in a way - may have been able to stand up to some Ruskie armor (ha).
Oh, I echo - I think the car in photo at gas-station was an Olds-Omega. I also really appreciated the /6 development history trivia information! G'day to you all, and pray for Ukrainians & all others who are in a bad way.

Please be noted, Friday is quad witching day, which is a very bearish biased day last year, and there is no reason I would assume any change for the coming one, so best chance for sustained rally would probably have to wait until next week.

So, what is this "quad witching day" this person speaks of???
I don't necessarily buy into all that superstitious mumbo-jumbo, but I was just curious. What's he talkin about?? :dunno:

This concerns me because I've been bitten in this area before, but I don't think the general public notices. It would be tough if that's the only thing that holds the market back Friday.
