coolhand's Account Talk

It's always a good feeling to sidestep pain. :)

The markets have been very good to me in February. Libya is gonna chase Egypt's outcome until Moammar has to leave, that will be a long time. I'm going to take these positive gains and hide until next week.

Some good technical analysis on the dollar for those of you in the I fund, or those thinking of taking a position in it.

http://www.traders-talk.com/mb2/index.php?showtopic=128244

CH - Good reads as always today....those dollar charts don't show the critical trend line the dollar is sitting on right now per this chart.....
http://elliottwavetrendsandcharts.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/dol-24.png
I still think the dollar will bounce off of that trend line, kind of a double bounce like back in 2008, then up to 87 for a test of the upper trend line. But it needs to happen now and if it instead breaks down hard from here, well then maybe we go right into high inflation right now instead of in a year or two like I'm currently thinking.

I went to the World Money Show here in Orlando a couple weeks ago and heard a 45 minute presentation from Joe Battipaglia and during that presentation he spoke about the rising bonds yields sending an inflationary message. His take was that it would be about another year (since the bond market looks ahead about that far) before inflation becomes too hard to hide in Government data. So your expectations match his.

Props Coolhand, that is why I can't give you any more rep...I gave you all I could within the bounds of the MB Law!

I cancelled my IFT for today. With the market moving lower now, this may not be the best spot to get defensive. I could be wrong too, but it's my call.

It was going to be 50/50. Really not worried about the tracker position. I'm not a member of it because I like it. I did it because my arm got twisted.

You were moving to 50G right - you need a strong equity position to get off that bottom.

I heard dat.

Starting to think I should run two trackers next year. One to reflect real life allocations and one for guilt-free competition.

what? you mean your tsp positions don't have to match your tracker picks? say it isn't so.

i've been playing that game with one hand tied behind my back then, no wonder i haven't got a coffee cup yet.

when i do an IFT i also set my Contribution Allocation the same, and mark it on the tracker then post in my account talk thread. i thought that's how it was supposed to be.

i don't think i could keep the two straight if i did that, would misclick and send all my real money in when i meant to be out for the game or something.

You become a more intelligent and cautious investor when you use real money - it provides a valid learning lesson. There is great opportunity in TSP to make serious money over time but you have to learn before you churn. The more you have in the more you can win.
