coolhand's Account Talk

Let's not start a political discussion here. The article only states the fact that Missouri is taking political action. There are many other actions to come across the country. We are all Americans. I would much prefer we hammer the politicians rather each other.

With regard to the additional borrowing to give money to states, this is what the PA governor referred to when he was explaining his budget for 2011 assumed additional money from the USG. It still left him a $1B hole to eliminated though, even after the $1B assumed aid. (How easy we write "B" now). The borrowing for the "stimulus"/state aid package preserved state jobs and funded state medicaid, temporarily preventing states from having to raise income, real estate and other taxes. With the prognosis of 4 years of minimal/no growth, it seems the bullet has to be bit soon, at both the state and federal level. Do we think the Congress will continue, every year, to borrow more to pass to the states? What implications does that have for accelerating our Republic to a different form of control?

Scary, isn't it? I'm with ya.
