I've been looking at my quarterly statements and building some very basic spreadsheets.

Is there a set day of when finance, through your paycheck, purchase your shares? It apprears to be on the monday of the workweek we all get paid on. Is those share prices based on Friday's Close or Monday's Close share value?

Thanks.

I don't know if I understand your question correctly or not, however, I'll give
it my best shot. Once the market closes it takes approximately three and a
half hours (7:30pm est) before they publish the share prices on the TSP
website. Contributions from my paycheck will be entered after they come
up with the closing share prices on Tuesday Night. On Wednesday morn,
my contributions are in their designated funds.

Monday: Normal Operations
Tuesday: After the market closes, Contributions are added at 7:30 prices.
Wednesday: Normal Operations

If you make a Contribution Allocation Change at the same time that you
do a IFT, the Confirmation Email can help show you how the account was
affected, but not seperately. If you spread your contrib's to multiple funds
it becomes more difficult and sometime, all but impossible to track. I use
to put all contributions in one fund at 100%. It was easier to track. Now,
I'm considering using my Contributions to add shares to all funds, even
though it becomes more complicated to track.

Hope this helps !;)

Each agency is different. Mine, I get paid on a Friday, but my contributions hit the Wednesday before pay day.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess where the confusion is on my part, is from my QTR Statements from TSP.gov.

For instance, it shows that XXX amount of money was pulled from my paycheck on 30 JUN 08 and purchased C Fund Shares at $14.59. The day of the week that occured upon was a Monday.

Every date on my quarterly statement is a Monday before payday (Thursday).

My end state goal is developing a spreadsheet that I can put my total contributions per pay check, have the spread sheet divide my contributions and the matching to the different funds dependent upon my allocation. In order to do this, I'll need to understand when our finance purchases the shares.

This just goes to Show (pun intended) that you can teach an old dog,
new tricks. :toung: First, I thought everyone in the Government who has
Direct Deposit got paid on Tuesdays. (NEW) Second, I better take a
better look at my statements, as I've never noticed the actual dates
of Contributions before. Thanks to the both of you !;)

I guess you already had the answer to your question in your hands. If
the share prices match those on a Monday, then its the Monday's closing
price that it would represent. Looking at my statement just know shows
the date of contributions (for me) is on Tuesdays and I confirmed that the
closing share price on Tuesday was used.:D

I thought that too at one time but if you look at the grand scheme. Millions of dollars hitting the payroll system and stock markets all at once would create a bottle neck some where.

I get paid on the 1st and the 15th, or the first business day prior to it, if those days are on weekend or holiday. And actually, since I use USAA, I get access to my money one day sooner than that. For example, I was most recently paid on Wednesday December 30. However, my contributions seems to only come from the paycheck on the 1st, and no contribution on the 15th.
I am still trying to figure out when it will hit my TSP account. I assume tomorrow, but I don't know.

I presume you must be military. Civilian agencies generally pay every two weeks. However, military technically pays once per month. If you are getting paid on the 1st and the 15th, you are actually getting half-a-month's pay each time, but the TSP is only deposited in the military once per month.

Are you military?

If you are military, then technically your payday is the 1st of the month. For TSP, your deposit into TSP SHOULD be recorded as a deduction in your paycheck in the 1st of the month. Then, the military sends the electronic deposit to the TSP- usually on the afternoon of the 1st, so that it would show up as a deposit overnight when the account balance is posted on the morning of the second.

On days that the 1st falls on a weekend, or on a holiday, the deposit is usually made the first business day AFTER the holiday.

It's a military thing.

I'm old enough to remember when we only had one payday a month- there was no such thing as direct deposit, and you got your pay, in person, in cash, by reporting to the pay officer of your unit.

Direct deposit changed all that.

Yes, I am military, and that's exactly what happens. So, I assume tomorrow morning I will have the contribution in my account?

Should be. However, they really aren't required by law to deposit until the end of the month. The Christmas holiday may have affected it this month. It would be unusual, but perfectly legal.

I would presume that it will show up tomorrow. Take a look after 7 am tomorrow, and let us know if it showed up.
