Cactus' Account Talk

Yes, C & S were disappointing yesterday but doesn't the "Santa rally", if there is one, extend into the 1st few days of the new year?

You are correct EA. The Santa rally officially ends on 3 Jan. Hopefully we start 2018 with a little bounce after last week being down. Just out of curiosity, why evilanne?

Why the question or my name? I also hope we get a bounce...the market in December-January seems to work counter to what I expect each year and the name is nickname I got from a former neighbor...probably for being very direct at times with certain people

Ah, the vague English grammer. Thanks for pointing that out, evilanne. I understood the latter but can now see the former as the meaning as well.

I also hope for a bounce in early January. That's why I'm still in the market. We will have to see if the theory of waiting until 2018 to sell for tax purposes will put a damper on that.

Yes the Santa rally does start later in December and extends into early January, but I consider everything on monthly basis because of our IFT limitation. If we didn't have that I probably would have gotten out for the first trading day of 2018.

Did not mean to offend by asking about your name. I just thought it was cute and wondered how you came by it. Many have posted about how they came by their name, myself included, but if I have offended you I am sorry. I certainly do not want to become "certain people"

Raven out!

No offense taken...I got along great with my neighbors and the name just stuck so I have used it online ever since :D

Is anyone else having problems logging into their TSP account this morning. When I try l to use their website, https://www.tsp.gov/tsp/login.html, it never comes back from the login. When I try to use the phone menu all I get is a series of clicks after I enter my credentials.

No problem logging in but seems to have an issue when I click on anything. Then I got kicked out.

Called TSP...they are having some type of outage...suggested to try back in a few hours.

I was able to log in but it took a long time. The site was really slow and finally showed only a blank screen, not good if you want to IFT.

Thanx for the feedback, everyone. I was thinking they were down to patch their servers for "Meltdown" and "Spectre" but they hadn't posted anything saying they were down for maintenance.

I hope no one was going to try an IFT today.

I was going to take a bigger position if it dropped...I wonder if I'm getting suckered in for the big correction we've all been waiting for for a year... :-O
Honestly, I think that correction has been put on hold for a year or two....We'll see if congress gets rebalanced to spoil the party.

It certainly does look like someone is buying the dips. I was thinking of getting out this week and then back in again later in the month but so far it doesn't look like a market we can time.

So, maybe irrational exuberance is driving this train now. I certainly am planning to increase exposure..everyone else is too. (so that scares me a little bit). I just hate leaving so much money on the table after 8 years of being out of the market. Its my goal is to increase the pot about 25% and I think patience and 3 years can do that without crazy risk but I wont start pulling money to live on until I reach my goal (or 70 1/2).

Well right now I think it's exuberance over the tax bill. That was priced in last year, but the affect is just getting started. How long it will last is anyone's guess. Any news driven event could throw a bump or two in its way short term as it still heads up long term. Last year was a Buy-N-Hold year and so far I don't see this year being any different. The only problem is that I'm no longer the Buy-N-Hold type. :D

Wow! Someone is still buying the dips. You just can't time this market. Looks like Buy-N-Hold is still the way to go for now.

People like me who was planning on increasing my exposure because of enthusiasm for the market. I didn't do it yet but badly want to..You guys have me spooked..LOL

So, if it actually comes to shutting down the government does that mean our IFT's don't get processed until they get back from furlough?
