Buyouts to nearly all federal workers?

I heard Musk say he thinks a lot of federal workers are ghost workers and don’t exist, that they are someone stealing the payroll off a fictitious worker.

Here is what Musk posted:

From Yahoo:

Musk on Sunday called his latest request “a very basic pulse check.”

“The reason this matters is that a significant number of people who are supposed to be working for the government are doing so little work that they are not checking their email at all!” Musk wrote on X. “In some cases, we believe non-existent people or the identities of dead people are being used to collect paychecks.”

He has provided no evidence of such fraud.

Separately, Musk and Trump have falsely claimed in recent days that tens of millions of dead people over 100 years old are receiving Social Security payments.

I spent at least an hour of my workday ensuring the email was high-quality, spent an hour in a meeting with management about what might happen next. those are hours that could've been done, you know, doing efficient work?

We have a couple staffers that are on leave, what happens if they didn't respond because they were on AL? Now you can get fired for taking leave at the wrong time?

Everything they say is bullshit, or at least 99% I'd wager. Anyone who supports this guy is welcome to come at me, I don't give a damn. The time for staying quiet and trying to be nice is over here.

This is nonsense.. We had to reply to his initial opm email weeks ago. At that point he had a complete, verified list of gov. email addresses and employees.

Waste of time, network usage and money. As someone already stated, our department had to shift from department work to deal with this mess.

I'm curious

Not standing in anyone's shoes, I'm not sure if I'd take this offer. Having come from 2 critically manned career fields in the military, it always seemed like they cut too deep & quick, then had to offer bonuses for retention.

Will anyone here be able to re-apply to their old job or any other federal job after taking this compensation?

I'm out of touch with the federal workforce, who's more prone to stay vs. leave (Dem Or Repub) ?

My field office would have been a bad example. I think there were only two democrats when I left.

First question, not sure. I would assume if there were no continuous monetary benefit then yes.
Second question. Don't know about the DEM/REPUB part but I would imagine that age is a factor first. Folks in that retirement eligibility window already might have been enticed to call it. And younger folks who may have been considering other careers or are just tired of the annual CR battle and figure its worth moving on.

That’s a heck of a memo.

The good news is that Voight has a clue what he is trying to accomplish.

The bad news is that there is no way he can have valid evidence plans that he requires- things like identifying jobs, competitive rifles areas, validating data , and estimating monetary impact if buildings and people in the timelines he suggests. What he wants by March 13- I couple work on at my agency and it would take our leadership teams about six months to hash through what we could come to consensus on. They are asking things our leaders would not have any idea-.

But what they are proposing to do- it’s massively changing government. That takes a while. Ships take miles to turn.
